I am quite sure this quesiton has been asked a 1000 times, but I'm new and would like some tailored advice.
I have a tower on my boat, its an 06 Sea Ray 185 Sport. I am currently riding on this board: http://www.yamaha-motor.com/waverunner/accessories/acscitemdetail/5/364/1292/8444/all/1/1823/0/detail.aspx
I work at a Yamaha shop and my boss made me a deal on it to get my feet wet. I have NO idea who makes it. It has some pretty decent bindings on it that are boot style and lace up with elastic pull straps. I dont know the brand.
I am 6'2" and weigh roughly 160 - 170. I am very new to this and am actually pretty nervous in the water. I want a board that looks sweet, but will help me gain confidence. What type of board should I look for? I want something that will grow with me, yet be really smooth and tight for me to get more confident.
Also, everyone talks about trying out a board...is there any try out shops in the Houston area???
Thanks for the help in advance! |

I went to sun and ski sports tonight and talked with them about boards. The guy there was SUPER helpful. He told me that for my ability and goals he would reccommend a Liquid Force Team or a Hyperlite State.
I am going to research this further. |

Trainwreck, do that and find a shop that will demo a board. There are more companies out there too, so dont limit yourself to just two. I love CWB boards, followed by O Brien and Gator.
There are tons of board shops in Houston that demo. I am not from that area, but I know there are quite a few. There is one that is located by UofH that I know for sure will demo out.
Please though, if you demo from them, buy from them. I work in sales, and nothing pissess me off more then people who demo our products, and buy elsewhere. You dont eat at Burker King and pay at McDonalds...
Also, congrats on the Sea Ray. I have last years, and it is really a great boat. The wake isnt like my fathers SANTE, but hell, it was half the price and doesnt burn/hold nearly as much gas. MarineMax is also a great dealership to buy from. _________________
