Well, after 3 weeks of anticipation I finally get to crack open my bottle of Pepper infused vodka. Red Jalapeno, Serreno, and Habenero Chiles sliced and dropped into a bottle of smirnoff. The thing has been sitting in my freezer and is good to go.

I got the idea from a singaporean restraunt where I had a pepper infused dirty vodka martini. They only used Red Jalapenos, but this drink is near the top of my favorites list.

Has anyone else done any experimentation with infusions?

Personal prefrence, I guess. I've always been fond of vodka martinis, and I'm a huge fan of hot & spicy flavors.

They haven't taken the drink off the menu at the restraunt, so I guess I'm not the only one.

There are Pepper Vodkas on the market as well, but I haven't been searching. Here's a few:

We tried infusing a watermelon with vodka once for the hell of it... it was a disappointment. I like beer, much harder f up.

When I was in Costa Rica we had something called "Howlers", they were shots of tequila that had been infused with jalapenos. Damn they were good.

Doing a quick search for prices Glenrothes ranges from $40 - $270 depending on product.

I still have to tout Wild Turkey's Rare Breed. Not Scotch, but damn good. And at $35/bottle, it's not terrible to always keep a bottle in the freezer.

Thank god it's the weekend.

As I'm typing this, I'm sipping on one damn good pepper vodka martini.

3oz infused Pepper Vodka
a dribble of xtra dry vermouth
a jalapeno stuffed olive

Perfect.. Nice and hot on the mouth and it lasts! Spicy enough, yet no burning effects, the wifey doesn't like hot like I do and I know she'll like this.

Unfortunately, I'm taking this to a friends house and it may not last too long.

If you're into it, it's definately worth the 2-3 weeks of waiting.

Enjoy the weekend, I know I will.

Pineapple, Kiwi, and Strawberry infused tequila. It's awesome and girls drink it like juice. Be careful though. This can result in a lot of girls vomiting all over the hardwood floors.

This one is awsome, tried this last night. Kinda pu$$, but whatever. You take a pan, fill it with gummi worms, throw a fifth of vodka in it, throw it in the freezer, wait a couple of days, and enjoy the gummis. The Vodka can be awful too, you dont taste it.

*UPDATE*

As you probably read at the beginning of this thread, i was skeptical about the habanero infused vodka, stating that (straight) vodka burns enough going down and why the hell would one want to add the worlds hottest peppers in it? well, as luck would have it...some compadre's of mine actually had a bottle of absolut sitting around and some habaneros in the fridge. well in a drunken flash of common sense, i recalled this thread and wanted to try in infuse some of those delightful habaneros with the vodka myself. mind you, i have no idea how to "infuse" drinks so i did my best. I poured a shot, cut a habanero up and squeezed the hell out of it into the shot, and figured "what the hell, might as well put the pepper in too" well after about 20 minutes of eye watering, snot nosed puking i have come to the conclusion that....it is still absolutly pointless to put freakin habaneros in vodka!! pics to follow this evening! cheers Embarassed

BigRed, we used grany smith apples at a bar I used to work at - awesome for apple martinis (chicks LOVE them). The apples will turn brown w/i a day if not refrigerated, but don't sweat it. Also had a friend with a sweet jar - probably a 3 liter and around 18 inches tall - with a spout at the bottom...he had marischino cherries in there and the vodka was killer for shots. Pineapple works great as well.

Note - 3 weeks is WAY too long. The infusion takes a day at most, after that, you are just going thirsty while you wait. Also, fruit WILL rot after a while and f*ck up your taste, so remove it if it looks funky. Infused vodka is best when you have an event and can prepare it a couple of days-week in advance.

PSA - sh*tty vodka is just fine when you mix it with, well....pretty much anything with flavor. And by "fine" I mean right then. Sh*tty vodka kills you on the hangover. Monapalova is a good priced decent vodka to use for infusion (or just drinking). Of course, if you are in Texas, Tito's is the prefered vodka all damn day.

Okay I am on the gross wagon here. That has got to be the nastiest drink idea I have heard in a while. Of course I hate hot peppers and spices like that.

And before you jump on the puss wagon. I like Beam and Crown straight with ice. A southerners drink. Cool

But that shot jryoung posted is enough to make me gag. Shocked

btw to add a little knowledge on all you kids. I was in my dorm watching Myth Buster, becuse we have basic cable, and thats what we do. Anyway I learned that if you buy wot gut vodka,, you know that 2.99 a bottle crap, buy a filter pitcher, and pass it through like 7 or 8 times, you can actualy make your cheep vodka better. I didn't beleav this, but we of course being the intellegent groupe of unmotavated kids we are, tried it, and guress what...

IT WORKS!!!!!.

Griff, that is beautiful. I wouldn't say that what you did was quite like infusing vodka, more in the lines of "hot to burn the living $hit out of your mouth with a splash of vodka". Eating an entire Habby is insane.

Infusing would be to add a couple chunks of the pepps to the bottle let it sit for a couple months.

haugy, PUSSBOY Wink

I just saw this recipe for Strawberry infused Vodka from one of my cooking Journals:

Strawberry Vodka

3 cups hulled strawberrys
1 tablespoon coriander seeds, toasted
2 teaspoons fennel, toasted
2 long strips orange zest
1/2 vanilla bean, split lengthwise
1 liter vodka

1. Cut Strawberries into quaters or halves and mash. Combine seeds, zest, and vanilla bean with strawberries and vodka in a quart jar. Refrigerate for 1 week.
2. Strain Strawberry mixture. Pour flavored vodka into bottle.
3. Serve vodka icy cold, garnish with berried and orange zest.

Um... yeah... not even close. Chewing a habenero w/ a little vodka is NOTHING like what I did.
