I get that an I/O wake is typically much smaller than that of an inboard. My question is:

Would the size of a ballast--weighted I/O make certain tricks impossible?
Or does having the wake size of an inboard just make tricks that much easier?

I ride behing a glastron I/O with a tower and it puts out a decent enough wake...i'm pulling 3's and plenty of air all around with proper edgeing...It's not like u need a massive wake for tricks...but if u can have it it's a bonus...also one guy got hammered at my cabin and could barely clear the wake yet nearly threw a backroll...so it's not like u cannot do tricks behind them...hopefully this year i'll get the 5 and some inverts under my belt..

that's the stock tower from glastron...i think it has a roswell sticker on it but that might just be the tower speakers...it came with the board holders and tower speakers striaght from the factory...my buddys getting a newer boat this season hopefully for may long on...it's the 19 ft version. the good thing about the new boat besides it's bigger (1000lb's so hoping bigger/nicer wake) it also has the tower attached from the factory with the upside down u type things...it adds another foot to the tower..and the new boats black/off white w/chrome tower including the same options and perfect pass. Very Happy

yah i wasn't sure if roswell was the tower or the speakers...cause on the silver plate glastron is etched into it so i wasn't sure...but yah it's a decent tower..it wasn't overly stable but the new boat's tower is rock solid...i'll be perched up on it for video/photo time.

I just got a 22.5' Crownline. It's an IO and I don't have a tower. I'm just a rec rider and actually have wakeboarded mostly behind a waverunner. Does a tower make that much of a difference? This boat is still going to be much better than a waverrunner, right?

triggrman, from a waveruner to a boat is a massive difference much bigger wake and better speed n control..from no tower to tower is defanitly a diference but for startin out if ur still workin on the basics you shouldn't need one yet...a tower helps by pulling u up and across the water whereas a normal hook or something pulls u down into the water...so when u jump behind a tower it helps hold u in the air somewhat (rather than pulling u to water)...i learnt up to w2w grab 180s with no tower then after that i started up with my buddy's (see above) boat n with the better wake n more hangtime thx to tower i started pulling threes...
