| I started riding last summer and did not keep the rope in tight at all. I was wondering how big of a diffrence this makes and why. Thanks for the input. |

It depends on what tricks you are trying... Keeps your center of gravity over your board. If you're just doing wake to wake and learning, it's extremely important for a variety of reasons. _________________ (insert funny chit here) |

| I wish there was a tutorial that explained things such as this. |

key_daddy, yah i had the same sceptical look at keeping the rope in close. I was doing 1's with grabs with striaght arms the whole way. When i decided to take it to the 3's it was damn near impossible to get a handle pass. I was having to pull so hard to get it that i'd throw myself off balance in the air. When i went back n read the trick tips i realized i wasn't holding it close and when i went out n kept my arms tucked in i stuck it 2nd try (1st try was just getting my balls back)...if u can practice keepin the rope in close now so it isn't a pain later. _________________ Smile at the hotties on the boat...Huck ur new trick...Nail it and they'll think ur Wicked..and even if u bail they can soothe u afterwards:D...

| oshensurfer, This site has nothing that really goes in depth for things such as fundamentals. Yeah i figured dvd's would explain things better. Im really looking for something that goes into details. Most everything you see for beginners just says"Cut in with a progressive edge, hold the rope close to your hips, and stand tall." |

That's pretty much the jist of it though. It really is.
I'd recommend getting the Book, Higher Education or Detention (DVD's) and watching the beginner sections about 20 times and then watch it on your DVD in your car (if you have one) on the way to go ride.
If that doesn't work, get a lesson or offer someone a pull behind your boat and get some pointers. Post in the find a pull section that you're looking for someone to help you get better. Or do all of the above.
What exactly are you having trouble with? Just wake to wake? _________________ (insert funny chit here) |

Yeah its w2w. I have been riding for around 2 summers i guess and i have never really got any better.
i can get w2w every 3 tries i guess. So I Have been doing something very wrong over the past 2 summers to not have gotten really much better. Another prob is i dont have anyone on the lake to really help me that i know {Dale Hallow Lake, Tennessee.} Im going to get The Book and see if that will help me any if not i guess im out of luck. What the hell could it be? |

maybe you should shorten up the rope or speed up the boat...with a shorter rope the wake is alot narrower and way easier to learn behind, not to mention its alot better on ur knees and ego when u can clear the wake consistently. And if ur going 2 slow u might not carry as much speed into the wake as u normally would not to mention the wake is wider and not as solid at slower speeds..i know i ride with a slightly shortened rope and it helps...and for speed 18-21miles is whats recomended..so change it up around those margins..chao _________________ Smile at the hotties on the boat...Huck ur new trick...Nail it and they'll think ur Wicked..and even if u bail they can soothe u afterwards:D...

| Well i didnt change up the speed and that was some of the problem. I dont want to shorten the rope though cause that is just making it eaiser on myself and i dont want to do that. I still think there is something very bad wrong with my fundamentals. |

key_daddy,
What length are you riding at. I think you should shorten the rope for a few runs until you start nailing the W2W. Most people do that and then move back.
Start with the one wake jumps, with keeping your handle closer to your hips and standing tall. Progress to W2W after that, then get consistent, then add length. You've got to crawl before you walk.
Good luck.
Next time you're out, take a video and post it for more help. _________________ (insert funny chit here) |

| OK i will try it with a shorter rope. I dont have a tower so the rope is on the back, how long should it be. Im not really sure how long it is right now. Thanks for all the help. |

key_daddy,
Start at 60'. Make sure you have a non-stretch wakeboard rope. The fact that you don't have a tower probably doesn't help, either. _________________ (insert funny chit here) |

i wouldn't say a no tower doesn't help...when i started riding i was behind a 1900 lund pro sport with a lil tuping pylon...i learned the basics and some grabs...back then thinking about it i used a really short rope...just because it's harder to get height without the tower so i shortened up the gap to make it easier... _________________ Smile at the hotties on the boat...Huck ur new trick...Nail it and they'll think ur Wicked..and even if u bail they can soothe u afterwards:D...

brath5,

While you can learn and ride without a tower. It is more difficult than with one. I think having a tower also reduces the tendency of the boat to pull you forward, because the angle of the rope to the water is more up or straight than down... Just my .02 though. _________________ (insert funny chit here) |
