ok i have never ridden before but i hope to get into wakeboarding big time this summer. my first question has too do with the board. the only place around here that sells wakeboards is a place called sports athority and the smallest board they have is a 140 i am 5 8 and 120 pounds will that be too big? Aslo just a random question when you go onto a rail or kicker do you have to have the fins off? or can you just ride with them on? o and what are a couple of suggsestions on boards? i was looking at a obrien vision 135 or a hyperlite motive 140 are those good or should i look into something else?

thanks
cameron

thecockerkid, Yeah it will probably be a little big. Because it's too big for you, it will be a little harder to edge I'd think. Now on rails and kickers, you would want a board with molded fins or just shallow fins. When I was starting out, I was using an O'Brien Diesel and it still works for me. I've only really ridden O'Brien, so all I can say is you may want to go for a Diesel or Oasis, but if you want to pay for a vision, go for it...Great board. Don't go for the HL 140, if you can get a smaller size then try 'er.

Good luck.

I have an obrien oasis 137. I'm about 6ft tall 155 pounds. It works for me. I'd wait awhile before you start hitting sliders and kickers. My oasis has molded fins and attachable ones.

I got my OBrien board at Sports Authority, it works fine for me but the bindings are what you should really worry about.

If you buy a package, you should defintely make sure the bindings fit and feel good. I tried mine on but it felt completely different on the water. Whenever I used them my ankles got all bruised up and when I tried my edgeing my feet would slip and I'd wipe out.

Luckily I know someone to trade them too, but the stupid guys at Sports Authority really screwed me over. Didn't try helping me out at all. Be careful, I hate that store now.

There are better places to buy a board than the sports authority. You'll have a hard time finding anyone there that even rides. Try Brinson Marine. It is at 4553 west seneca in syracuse. You'll pay a little more up front, but it is less expensive than buying a board that doesn't fit only to have to go buy another one. They have people there that ride and can help fit you.

I live in Massena, it is about 3 hours north of syracuse. I was at the boat show in Feb. and stopped at the Brinson booth. They had a good deal on the Hyperlite board I wanted.

Yes you should have an idea of what size you need. Check the shop button on this site. They have a sizeing guide to help. More important try one the bindings for a proper fit.
