--Sharp--, fins are there to stabilize the board - to help it track. Most boards now have molded in fins, and even if the board does not, fins are still not necessary.
So I guess what I am saying is fins are there to tweak the ride of your board. Put them on, take them off, get longer, shorter, etc. - whatever makes you feel more comfortable out there. _________________

If you can control your board well without fins more power to you. You must be a snowboarder. They seem to like a looser feal. _________________ Its hard being a chick rider, you have to know how to ride, and make sure your still wearing your bikini after busting. |

drdubie, if your board has molded in fins, you really shouldn't need additional fins to edge and track properly.
That said, if you are more comfortable with them, use them.
I haven't used fins in years. I have a bag full of them that I keep around in case someone else needs them on the boat.
FWIW, I ski, not snowboard. I can snowboard, but I prefer to ski. One would think that my ski preference would lend to a fin-preferred ride style, but one would be wrong. _________________

I went the first half of last summer with fins, then took them off the last half and it makes a world of difference. I am a snowboarder though, so that may be why I prefer my wakeboard without fins, It is much easier for me to move around without fins. _________________ It is better to be thought a fool, then to speak and remove all doubt. |

heres what i break it down to... most boards now come with molded side fins and removable center. you'll get the perfect board. most people ride finless and only on the molded then when you get some nasty water thrown at you or a choppy day you throw on the fins and rip. how bout them apples. all they do is stabilize. if you had a perfectly flat board they'd keep you straight but now days most boards are shaped so well that you don't need them at all. _________________ i drive a convertible. i have a boat. i wakeboard. word 2 yo mutha. dueces. |
