Sequoyah Marina is building a new restaurant/marina: http://www.sequoyahmarina.com/new_building.html
It should be up and running by the beggining of this season.
Norris is one of the cleanest lakes around and has plenty of glass year round.
Hope this helps!
*Edit* another option would be the TN River/Ft. Loudon. You may have seen a clip of the river on Relentless. I forget whos section it's in, but it has a pic of one of the riders in front of Calhoun's on the River. They have the Eskimo Escapades here ( www.eskimoescapades.com ) and it is very easy to find and will draw a larger crowd than almost anywhere at Norris. It isn't the cleanest lake around, though.

AOliver - I think Eskimo is one of the best events. Ive done it 4x, But it can get pretty rough there on a Sunday Afternoon in June.
Norris is my favorite Lake. Is there a cove at sequoyah to hold the event?

h2obug, Try turkey creek in Ff. Loudon. Its where we have all of our tourneys, and where the UT boat dock is. Its a cove in the farragut area, down northshore going west. See if you can find it on mapquest.com or something like that. If you have any Q's let me know. You can also call American Boat Center here at 777-BOAT, and ask for either Ryan or Rob and they'll talk to you about getting a tourney there and what all you have to do and such. I'm just one of the little people so I dont know haha!!

h2obug, there are plenty of coves around Sequoyah. I would do what Rufio said and contact Ryan or Rob at ABC and I'm sure they'd be willing to help you with the tournament. Also, try calling Sequoyah at 865.494.7984 and ask for Jim (there are two- either will help you out). They may be able to help you out as well.

Definately get ahold of Ryan or Rob, they could help. I know with any events on Ft. Loudon Park (in Lenoir City at least, just a 15 minute ride from Knoxville), you can get the fire department out there in boats and they'll direct traffic away from the site. Got lots of grass to spectate, and when Murray and Nunn came last year, they went to Ft. Loudon Park. It's also where CWB team rider Jeff House lives. It's almost necessary that you get the fire department though, not the brightest boaters in Lenoir City. It's a good place though, usually when they have regulated events there, the water is great.

h2obug, Norris is a killer lake, but not good at all for a tourney! There is a good spot in Oak Ridge at the rowing club on the river. It is were they used to have some good tourneys in the mid 90s.

There is a nuclear power plant in Oak Ridge and rumor has it that they dumped nuclear waste in the water when they were building the atomic bomb to end WWII.

Milton hill would be great, I used to take people out on demos at the milton hill dam park and there is a large grass pickneck area that overlooks the water, plus one of the reasons I took people there was that except for the occasional bass boat there is very little traffic.
the water just gives you a reason not to fall

Melton Hill is a terrific place, it was one of my little hidden jewels that has butter even on the busiest day of the year. Bad thing bout Melton Hill is there is alot of debris. When I told my dad I was going out there one day he freaked out and told me not to cause it was dangerous, normally you wouldn't think anything about a dad's concern but my dad is inspector for tva dams, so I have to consider he knows what he's talking about. Sure enough, lots of debris (logs of all sizes).
As for the Nuclear waste dumping, I don't know if I believe that. Oak Ridge was one of the higher rated sites during the Yucca Mountain Review a few years ago, when they assessed the waste storage problems inherent at all the nuclear sites in the U.S. I won't get off on a tangent though. Anything that may have been done during the Manhattan Project is perhaps not documented, but no one has reeped any problems from it yet. I ride on Watt's Bar Lake often, and it's not any different than Ft. Loudon, other than the water is colder.
Melton Hill is a great place, it's a big camp ground actually. It's a little trashy, as in...redneck. Many-an ignorant boater has aggrivated me there. If I'm remembering right (it's been a couple months), there isn't THAT much water in front of the camp ground though? The dam is RIGHT at the boat ramp, to the left, and then you have some distance down the lake, but is there some tree obstructions there (I'm talking about above the dam, not below it)? A pro for Melton Hill is that either side of the very narrow river is large hills, very little wind problems. There is alot of viewing area and visible water on the lower portion of the dam, but is there a decent boat ramp down there? I always load in above the dam. Also, Melton Hill is right off of Hw. 321, but it's kind of in the middle of no where (in between Lenoir City and Oak Ridge), it may be hard for some people to find? Take into account, if it's a big event, Melton Hill is not a 10 to 15 minute drive down Highway 321 towards Lenoir City to Ft. Loudon Park, both of which are directly off of Hw321. Like I said though, Ft. Loudon Park can get choppy if you don't have regulated traffic. I personally know some of the guys on the fire department boat-crew there, and if they even caught wind of the event they'd be out there for fun and to watch. Water is significantly cleaner in Lenoir City than it is in Knoxville (Knoxville has a turbidity of 20 on average, and Lenoir City usually has a 5-7 turbidity, I know this because I work at the water treatment plant in Lenoir City over summers).
EDIT, Yes, there is a boat ramp on both the upper and lower parts of the dam:
http://www.tva.gov/sites/meltonhill.htm
http://www.tva.gov/sites/tellico.htm
Also, I believe Shawn Madison on here has a whole photo section from the Murray/Nunn event at Lenoir City Park on the Tellico Reservoir in Lenoir City.

| There is a place to put in below the dam, but it is very narrow. It would be a lot better to put in above the dam so that we could use that park.

LoudonTN, Good Post! That really was not the place I had in mind. But it is another decent site. The one I am talking about is at the Oak Ridge Rowing Club. Precision Watersports used to hold tournaments there. They went out of business a few years ago!

Shawn - I used google earth to view and measure the rowing club location. What a beautiful stretch of the river! Can you tell me more about location of the starting dock, where most people observed, and boat path of previous events. What worked well with that location and what did not.

I would get in touch with the rowing club and check on permits and availability dates. You will see that those are your biggest obstacles. Also, if you tend to obstruct traffic, you will have to pay for a TVA police tender to police the channel, waterway, etc.
If I can help, let me know!

Yeah Shawn - we are in for the permit thing.. Last year Elite-V and my crew got the Coast Guard to Close the Ohio River to all traffic and coordinater barge traffic Right under the I65 bridge in Louisville, KY. Killer/Killer event. We learned one thing though - Never drink more than 12 RedBullls in one day. Here some Pics
