lead weight--again

sorry decided to start a new thread again cuz i didn't feel like searching for my old one. So i have this 1200 pounds of lead weights i gotta melt down and cast into bricks.....i started to melt them down and we had the pot on a camping stove. we also had 2 propane torches under the pot and used one torch to melt the lead from the top. This took wayyy to long i got about one 31 pound brick made in an our. anyone care to share what they used to melt their lead>??

I use a propane "turkey" fryer and a cast iron skillet. Takes about 30 minutes to melt 40 pounds that I pour into a bread pan to make a brick.

What are the hazards with lead (ie. Inhalation) ? I assume out doors with some air movement and wash afterwards.

Wow, 1200lbs is a lot of lead weight! Lead is a proven neurotoxin and have read previous posts about the dangers of melting your own.

As an alternative to melting and making bricks, you can try some cheap back packs or some other thick nylon sack and throw 100-300lbs of lead in each. The lead backpacks may pose less damage to your boat than bricks which could bounce and slide around.

ya i know 1200 lbs is a lot, which is why i am melting it because it takes up way to much room left in the form its in now. I bought respirators andall that to help with the fumes.....i guess i just need something that will melt it at a faster pace. Also--as far as ther bricks sliding around i am going to put them in a container to keep them in their place.

A guy I know was melting the led down and putting it in to RHS Steel, capping both ends.

That way once you have finished you have made yourself a brick, weighs about 50lbs and its also sealed, thus much safer

Rectangular Hollow Section. Wasnt sure if it would translate across.

Okay not sure of the size he was using, but maybe 2" x 1" x 12"long. weld a cap on the bottom. Fill with lead. Weld a cap on the top.

Sealed, can get it powdercoated, rubber dipped, painted or whatever and it looks mint.
