Stupid question, I just don't know the answer Wink

I am adding thru hull fittings above the water line for ballast overflow/venting. Do people typically seal these fittings with the same stuff as the below water-line fittings (3M 5200)? Do I just use a standard Caulk? Or nothing at all?

gvb, I'm not sure of the way it is suppose to be done but I put a standard silicone caulking on mine. Basically just to combat any splashes/rain etc. I don't imagine there is any need to use the marine cement IMO.

I used standard silicone on all my above the water line fittings and haven't had any problems.

I didn't use anything. Since it is a vent/overflow it is installed as high as possible anyway. No problems

Silicone is what was on there from factory. I used it mainly to seal the edges of the hole.
