bamaborder, tantrums are not the type of trick you just launch into the air and huck. The edge and air of a tantrum are different from any other move in wakeboarding. Take a hard cut in, edge all the way up the wake, then square your shoulders paralell to the wake and let go with your back hand. You will feel like you've been tripped backwards. Kick your head back and spot the water as soon as possible. While you're learning, it helps to tuck your knees in once you have initiated the rotation. Have fun.

Learn a really strong progressive edge for your w2w jumps prior to trying a tantrum.
I leaned a tantrum prior to working out the bugs in my regular edge, and it created all sorts of problems for me. I had to re-learn how to edge.

you need to stand tall at the top of the wake. just edge hard into the wake and stand up at the top.

On a tantrum, it's important to look at the wake for as long as you can. When you let go with one hand at the top of the wake, turn your back into the wake but keep your handle in tight and pop straight up. Your momentum will throw you up into the trick. If you don't wait for the top of the wake, you won't get any pop or height and will crash. If you can do it right, you will see the landing in plenty of time to get the board underneath you. Keeping the rope in helps you spin and adjust your speed. (In tighter=faster, out=slower) If you can tie a rope to a tree near a trampoline and practice flipping with one hand on the handle, it helps a ton with your confidence. Hope this helps...

Also, it's important to get most of your speed early so you can set up for the switching of your edge at the top of the wake. Edge hard, right of the rip but when you get to about 5 feet from the wake, let off just a bit so can concentrate on the trick.
