OG status.

i dont like the looks of the shane even the open toed shanes. gum soles just dont belong in wakeboarding. the 3ds and murray look okay tho. i wouldnt ride them unless they were as good as or better than open toes.

Gratz, can you give a reason as to why? Is there something different about them from open toed boots that makes them sic? Or are they sic for the same reasons as any other boot would be? (I am not bashin, just curious, that's all)

They were just as good looking, the new ones are all ugly. I haven't tried any of them though, so I can't really say whether I like them or not.

empty gimmick IMHO. there's only so far you can pull your board shorts down before you have to look for new ways to be unique/street/down/G/B/sick/dope.

the LF boots are actually functional according to the rep. he used this analogy: wakeboarding in open-toed boot is like snowboarding with your toe strap undone. now how accurate is this analogy? i dont know...we'll have to wait till the LF boots come out before we can make any judgements.

both the hyperlite and LF closed-toe boots are meant to let you ride longer in colder water...so if you live in the northwest you can ride longer without having to worry about numb toes.

as for me, i'll be putting my 2mm oneill neoprene booties on underneath my wakeskate shoes regardless of what bindings are available. Laughing

I'm anxious to demo some and compare them to the Zeus's, which are my odds-on favorite so far. Do the closed toe boots hold in water? I'm not looking forward to sloshing around with an extra couple pounds of water stuck in my boots, if so.

cloud, I'm sure they figured out an effective drainage system, if they havn't then that would be absolutely rediculous and those pounds of water would kinda suck.

I figured so as well, but then why do they market them as letting you stay in cold water longer? The same system that lets water out is going to let water in. I'll try some and see, but am still curious. I'm also not sold on the looks - they look like Doc Marten's nailed to a board. Smile

I love when reps use stories like that to sell. Like riding a snowboard without your toe strap down..

OK then hotrod, you have just discounted the functionality of every other boot in your line.

scott a, gimmick-hating aside, you have to admit that he does have a point.

Anyhow, (capstraps excluded) your "toe strap" is more over the top of your foot than your toes. About where the neoprene ends and the open air begins is about where a traditional toe strap would be for snow.

i think the closed toe boot is a good idea...heres my reasoning..
you wouldnt play basketball in sandals
you wouldnt skateboard in flip flops
ive tried them on but not rode them yet, but i believe they will work and give you better toe control.

wkbrdmdw, that is pretty bad reasoning. If one of the companys with them isn't even advertising them as giving you extra leverage, then you should know there isn't going to be much of a difference. Any extra control is going to be very little. The difference is going to be even less than you get in snowboarding with toe cap opposed to regular toe straps, because you wont have shoes in addition to stiffen it. Also if you think wakeboard bindings are comparable to sandals apparently you never rode back in the day of sandal bindings.

My little piggies don't care if they're enclosed or not. Plus I have the ugliest monkey toes in recorded history. When your big toe looks like the rotted-out eyeball of a dead animal, you want to share! (....never noticed all that toe hair. bonus.)

I have used Hyperlite boots now for about 5 years and have loved them. Excellent feel, wear and after sales service. However, the new enclosed toes suck. What were they thinking. I have'nt used them and can only base my dislike on the look. Like other people have said It's all personal choice and at the end of the day if they give you a woody then wear them. As for me Ive just ordered the new Watsons. Razz For what it is worth I just got a new Liquid Force ps3 and used it yesterday for the first time. The landings are like having an air matress under you when you land no matter how big out in the flats. The boards turns awesome and holds a good edge. The only thing I could say bad is it feels like it drags a bit in the water, but that is probably the 3 stage rocker. Awesome board and probably the easiest board Ive ever ridden, even without the fins. Big thumbs up on the Froggy board.

matt1808, yea i guess that was bad reasoning, i only got it from Chad's mouth, but what does he know he prolly never used sandals "back in the day either". And yes I learned on sandals back in the day so what the hell does that mean? I own the waters where you ride so dont even start with me boy! Make sure you call me when you want some lessons!

wkbrdmdw, you don't skateboard (usually) in sandals because you don't want the grip tape riped across your foot.
you don't wear sandals in basketball, because you need support so you don't roll your ankle- same reason why you don't use sandal bindings in wakeboarding.
wakeboard bindings are not comparable to sandals, unless your sandals go up your ankle and give you support.

Like I said earlier the difference is going to be comparable to toe caps opposed to regular toe straps in snowboarding. Probably even less of a difference, because the wakeboard bindings aren't as solid as snowboard boots+bindings.

What lakes do you ride on? Maybe I will see you out there and get those lessons.
