Hej guys! have been working on my HS 7 lately but I guess a lot of things go wrong with it... I always land to much on my heels and always lose the handle. tried a bunch of different things, but never made it... anybody got some advice for me? (movie of my 7 attempt two weeks ago)

my only advice, granted i've never done one, but have seen many in person, would say to shorten your approach by about a foot or two. that should get you a foot or so higher to come down easier for your landing.

Abel Vegter, dude that is a SICK 7. I dont know if your going off axis on purpose or not but that look so sick! It looks like you should have rode away...hold on to that handle like its a million bucks! Whew...Ive never seen a 7 that off axis. Wow. Maybe trying it off the double up would help
Definetely get a vid after you land it! |

Thanks! that from the approach should work maybe, gonna try it next time. and about the off axis thing, from the beginning I learned off axis they were all that off axis. tried couple of times to get it al little less off axis but that does not work... Do some of u guys know how much u should advance yourself to the handle before spinning? I feel sometimes that I get a lot of line tension on the last pass, but to my feeling im already pulling as hard I can before I spin..

Abel Vegter, the shorter approach is the exact opposite approach you want to take into that 7. first of all, it is very close, but if you take the exact opposite approach and take a very wide cut out and just drift in, you will be able to generate even more slack in the rope and for sure stick the 7, im thinking 1st or 2nd try. you also could let the rope out a little further so you can land on the downcurve which could prevent some of that pull you get when you land going from a lot of slack to know slack

with the drift you must provide a little edge up the wake to give you the pop and rotation to get yourself off-axis. as far as advancing on the handle, rob jacques and keith lidberg of the projects told me that the key to the h/s 7 is advancing so far that the handle is almost directly under your butt when you pass and keep going. this will ease your final pass. you look like you've got far enough on your own, i dont see you falling much on this trick (if at all) after these tips are accomplished. _________________ Mark Kenney, 1983-2002

before i offer tips please take into acount that I have not landed a 7 but i can do off axis spins pretty much flawlessly. I think that the main reason you are gettin to much line tension for the last spin is the same reason you are going too off axis. You are treating the off axis spin like a load and release trick, it's not. the off axis should be caused by a downward pull on the handle to initiate the spin not by your edging off the wake. This is a very easy mistake to make and the biggest problem is that even when you do it wrong it still alows you to learn 3's and sometimes 5's with this meathod but anything beyond that will be much harder. if you watch any pros do off axis spins in slow motion the always take a long gradual approach to the wake and as they are riding up the wake they flatten off the board and pull down and in to their rear hip. by lettin off your edge and pulling down and in it will cause the board to float out the back and give you the spin momentum and slack in the rope to finnish the trick. also the reason you are going so mujch out the back is because when you take a short approach and then edge up and away from the boat you are basically initiating the movement you need for a backroll and then you are pulling in to your hip which is stoping the backroll movment but leaving the line tension making it very hard to spin. I hope this helps.

one other thing i would add to help you learn the off axis spins a little more cleanly is to try and grab 3's and 5's off the wake. to do this you cant have lots of line tension and it will force you to learn it properly. Try to get the grab on the nose right after you leave the wake.

Tnx! I tried a grab on my oa spins a few times, but let it go pretty fast just cause the handle was 2far out to get the handle again. See I need 2 learn the oa spins a little different! Tnx for the advice! Guess I need to go a little further out then, and then flat out the board before the wake, planning already a new trip to the sun for next month for getting the 7 down! anyone knows a good place to go?
