I need some help hitting double ups. I've probably tried a good 15 or 20 D ups, but a lot of the time i hit the wake in between the rollers and i catch hardly any air. Is there any specific way to do double ups, or do you jsut go for it and hope you hit it at the right time?

Just start to drift in slowly when you see the boat starting to hit the rollers, you can start to see where you are going to hit. Also you just need enough speed to get you over the other side unless you just want to go huge. All it is getting your timing down. Once you get that they are easy and very fun.

have to work on your timing,its hard at first but once you get it right you should get it every time(just like your first time to get up on a wakeboard)

double ups are so much fun when you learn how to do them. imo you want to start a little later then you think. cuz if you come in to early then you slow down at the end of your cut giving you less pop and making you come up short(bad on double ups.) by cutting in late you accelerate late in your cut giving you more speed at the wake. What helped me was to really focus on pumping the rollers like transitions in a skatepark. just develop a rythym. make sure your driver ois good too. a nice wide turn is needed for a good double up.

You also can't chicken out. When i was trying them, i would always ease up on my edge and miss it. Then all of the people in the boat told me to just go for it, and i hit it perfectly.

Double Ups are all about timing.. Take a reasonable cut out, not riddiculously far out, just enough to clear the wake.
Then when you come across the first roller (the half roller before the bigger three, or the later ones if you want to hit the bigger ramp) straighten up and set your edge.
You dont need to edge hard at all and edging too hard will just cause you to skip across the rollers and loose line tension. Make sure you keep your eyes on the wake where the rollers are meeting and converging as you will run over the rollers when your cutting in.
Keep your knees soft and you will feel the 'rhythm' or 'tempo' of the rollers and its more or less in time with what your seeing at the wake... Watch as the wake converges and flattens and you can feel the 'up-down' of your board in time with the up down of the D-Up.
Its really hard to explain but once you start to feel it it begins to come naturally and you set your edge/timing based on more 'feel' than anything, and then can adjust in your cut and hit the D-Up square on.
More or less if you want to hit your D-Ups consistently you need to 'feel' the cut rather than just cutting in and hoping for the best. Theres no specific place to begin cutting or no specific edge to take.. its different for every boat, rider and D-Up. Wink

hit the first d-up that the boat throughs, when oyu come around you should already be outside the wake then just get the fisrt one

it's about timing and there's a good way to time it. first off you have to keep your eye on the roller you're going to hit, i say pick the biggest one which is one of the last ones. then the key for me, as far as learning it, was to get ahead of yourself when youre cutting in. the bottom line is if youre late then youre gona miss it a lot more than if youre early. when youre early coming in on the dup then you can adjust easier. so, obviously, the ideal way to hit it is a smooth cut towards it but that is not always easy to do when learning. i say cut in from pretty far out, keep your speed, make sure youre not late coming in b/c when u rush it u Bubb Rubb up, and keep your eye on it!

Yeah i tried a double up and i timed it wrong. I cut right through the wake and the back of my head slapped the water while disloding my feet from the wakeboard. Needless to say it hurt really bad.

all it is, is timing. but you also need to be able to hit the wake at a good speed...when the boat hits the rollers that is when you should start to cut in..

you will need to cut in just as hard as a wake jump, but resist the line from pulling you over cause you'll feel a jolt for sure. this is key for maintaining your axis in the air. its very easy to get bucked off balance by one.

like everyone else said you need to time it. the harder you cut in, the less time it takes for you to approach the wake, so you might need to wait to cut after the boat passes all the rollers. i would say that is a safe bet for a minimum cut. if you start cutting before the boat has reached any rollers and it would have to be too soft of a cut to get any action out of the d-up, let alone clear the wake.

I agree its better to cut in late than early. Like THC mentioned, if you let off your edge youll come up short, if your late and you have to add edge youll go bigger but the main reason I hate being early is because Ive found when I hit the 1st or 2nd roller when I land, there are still little rollers so you land on rollers which is a great way to blow your acl. Id rather just miss a double up.

Just remember to wait. I know that I always used to cut early, if thats your problem...wait till you think you should cut then say 1 mississippi in your head and that should be better timing. Like I said, better late than early! I love hitting the 3rd roller late because I really cut hard without realizing it just to make it in time and it ends up booting me bigger than normal double ups. Double ups are simple if you have a good driver. Instead of driving the boat across the wake at 90 degrees, drive across it at 110 to 115 degrees. By doing this when you are on the board you can ride over the first two rollers and then simply ride in the trough of the third roller toward the wake. When you reach the wake the double up will always be waiting for you every time. This also gives you time to prepare for the huge pop.

Use 110 to 115 degress if you are goofy hitting it heelside. Use 80 to 75 if you are regular hitting it heelside.
