I take enough shots to the head as it is, so I'm getting a helmet this year, and thought I'd take advantage of all the experience on these boards. Do you think it's worth it to get a helmet with built in headphones. I got an ipod this summer, and am planning on using it, but didn't know if the built ins were worth it. and feel free if you have any suggestions on models.

I think it would be cool to have headphones, but I think I use my hearing too much when I ski. Like hearing if there is someone behind me and that kind of stuff.

I've got an MX9 and I don't think I'll be changing any time soon.

it's pretty cool to have when you go by yourself ...... but it gets kind of sketchy if you rock it so hard you can't hear anything around you. I prefer listening to some nice backround music when riding by myself.

In my experience, I haven't tried on a helmet with the built in headphones that I thought was comfortable though.....

You could get a red helmet, and buy the audio earpads and then have some removable phones if you wanted to see what it was like.

XxWakeboardxX I have a Giro MX9, I'll be getting tune-ups at some point. I would suggest getting an MX9 on ebay, they are dirt cheap ($60) and are the same helmet as the 9. People sell the tune-ups everywhere and they are only $20 if you find a deal. [/b]

XxWakeboardxX, I have the Giro Nine.9 with Tune-Ups and love it. I listen to it all the time on the mountain- it gets you into a rhythm and pumps you up for jumps, rails, etc... I didn't neccesarily need to wear it last season but did anyways. It keeps your head warm and comfortable as well as lets you hear your favorite tunes. My reccomendation is to make a long playlist in iTunes for boarding and make sure you keep your iPod warm. You will be amazed at how quick your battery runs down when you're up on the mountain. I, personally, do not think you could go wrong with TuneUps.

i just bought a red hifi helmet, dunno about the tunes, because when u ride u really need to know whats going on around u or else u might cause a crash or something. so i dunno about the earpads, if u want them buy them seperate. go to gi joes, find a helmet u like. switch boxes with the cheapest look alike helmet and go buy it. it works, i bought my red hifi, in a giro bad luteniet for 60 bucks instead of 100 saves 30 for headphones.

Laugh Damon, some people like music alot, I'm one of them. Nothing wrong with that.

I've got the Giro MX9 now, and am thinking about getting a headphones upgrade this year. It depends on if I get my Ski Instructer job or not to tell if I'll be riding alot this winter alone. I dont have a problem with people listening to music as they ride, as long as it's low enough that they can hear someone yelling at them. A little background music is always good. Very Happy

I'd like to ride w/my mp3's playing, but I like to hear what's going on around me. I also fall a lot, so my player would probably get trashed anyhow.

Alright, so riding is awesome with music low enough to hear your surroundings... but what happens when you want to hear your friends on the lift? that's what i've had trouple with, because it sucks having to dig out the mp3 player every time. so this year i'm using my creative zen micro mp3 player, with a wired remote, which i will keep in my mitten. And it's been hard finding comfy headphones.... so right now i'm in the process of looking for something i can modify to fit in my earflaps.

I have a Giro Fuse. I love it! It has the Tunes Up option (headphones built into ear flaps).

the red helmets have a mute button on the headphone that you can press .... so when you want to talk to your friends....boom. off. and press it again for some nice listening pleasure.
