Spent two hours at the lake this Sunday (66*F).
"The Book" came in Friday, and I spent a lot of time watching the first disc. Getting up, and edging positions.
On the water I felt a lot more confident, and for the first time actually got out from behind the boat using a heel side edge. After the first runs I was able to cross the left wake back and forth without falling.
The right wake... got me everytime I tried. My nose of the board is falling over the lip, and then it's over from there.
Came back and watched the DVD again, to check for bad habbits..
I think if I focus on being able to edge more, and getting my surface 180 for switch soon.. I'll be heading down the right track. _________________ Board: 05 Hyperlite State 145

Yeah, getting out of the wake ts was tough for me too. Practice leaving with more weight on your back foot and you'll be fine. Another technique is to just edge hard and use your momentum to carry you the rest of the way. For your own good practice switch now, I didn't and now I still have alot of problems landing blind. Suface 180's are a great place to start, as is trrying some 1 wake jumps. Man, you're already on the right track.
2 things, NEVER stop practicing switch. and ALWAYS work on your ts jumps (when you get to that level) Those are the 2 biggest issues most people face because they never worked on the basics.
And I would like to thank you for being in the top one millionth percentile of newbs. You used proper english and puncuation. You have got 1 up on the rest of them.

Everything ballywho said...well put.
ALWAYS ride switch, once you get to that level.. make yourself do it every run.
You may want to check out shorter fins, or take your fins off for practicing surface 180s, less likely to catch.
The key to control is keeping an edge, and keeping line tension.
Good job, and congrats!!
It sure is a good feeling! _________________ Be an organ donor! My father is alive today because of kind souls that donate life... |

Last night I worked hard on my edging. Lowering the boat speed to 18 I was able to go from regular to powerslide to switch. It was amazing how after repeating this several times made my heel side edge so much more comfortable.
I also was able to toeside over the right wake, which previsously got me twice. I put more pressure on my back leg and tried to keep my edge pretty continuous.
"The Book" says that the next edge is the reverse powerslide... That gives my chills thinking about it. But if it makes my towside edge improve as much as the heelside... it's worth it.
One question:
When I went from a powerslide to switch, it felt REALLY loose. Do you think this is just a ballance issue. I was more comfortable with just one hand riding switch. _________________ Board: 05 Hyperlite State 145

I'd try shifting more weight back when you're riding switch so you get those fins in deeper. Riding one handed is fine... for now.

| Back to the topic, it's wierd how you have trouble with the right wake. I water ski and I just wakeboarded today, but in waterskiing, it's so much easier for me to cross the right wake, while the left is harder. Maybe that's because I'm goofy-footed and you might be regular. |

brianw21, I think you're using the term powerslide when you mean "Surface 180"
A powerslide means you turn so that your butt is facing the boat and your fins break loose and make a big spray. This would have had to been a backside 180 if you did a powerslide to switch. What you probably did was a surface 180. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |
