Good Board for Beginner

Looking for a recommendation for a friend who is a beginner rider and has been using one of my old boards that is probably too small...they are about 185-200lbs and 5'11" riding on my 134. What is a good board / binding set-up to start with? Thx

I'd recommend either the Liquid Force Trip or Omega with either Alphas or Elements depending on what his budget would be. The Omega with Alphas is an excellent setup that will work great for a beginner or an advanced rider.

Anywho, I like CWB products. The new Flame setup with the torq bindings for 06' look mad crazy. I also suggest, if he can, demo as many boards as he can.

I know a couple of years ago the HL Motive was considered very good to learn on...also trying to figure out a good size board and a good LF or CWB he could look at...I weigh ~150 and like 134-136's...thinking @ 200lbs should be more like a 142? thoughts?

Depends really on the board manufactuers. Some like Liquid Force have boards in 134, for riders 100-170; 138, for riders 160-210 etc etc. Just demo them out. If not, www.wakeworld.com has a pretty nifty board wizard that isnt bias to a company.

The Evo is a great board for beginners. I started on a cheapo then bought the Trip - which I love - but I later found the Evo to be easier to break loose and easier to keep the ends up.

My Trip is great for carving fast, zipping around the wakes, which is what I was looking for at the time. Learned to spin and slide etc, then tried the Evo and all that stuff just seemed easier. Not as quick edge to edge but you don't ever catch the nose and you can land sideways and stay on plane.

I may take the center fins out on my Trip and see how that affects things - haven't tried that yet.

Oh - and I like the Element bindings a LOT more than the suction-style lube-required bindings of all my friends. More time boarding, less time struggling on the deck. Get em a size smaller than you think you should . . .
