Nice vid, great riding. BTW: It took me like 5mins to figure out what that title said. A pair of commas would help. |

well he is certainly better than me and my friends but does his riding warrant a sponsorship? I don't know. I've seen vids of people whose riding deserves a sponsorship a lot more. _________________

ive seen people sponsored for less. these days its more about personality and less about riding. that being said if youve got a bag full of tricks and help teach new riders at clinics and demos thats gonna be a huge plus.
thats how things are in nor-cal anyways. im sure things change as the talent pool likely changes with every state/region. _________________ www.TheLiquidPlayground.com

BTW, where did I say he didn't deserve a sponsorship b/c he was better than me?

I don't think kswiss is hatting, or hating.
The fact is, it's not like it was 7+ years ago. Back then (mike jones) wakeboarding was brand new, and the riders throwing tech tricks were few and far between, there were only a handful compared to whats going on today. The gap was just much larger when comparing your local badass to a 'pro'. Now that the sport has been around and is more developed, it's more about marketing and networking. Seriously, everybody is good these days. Is it really that weird anymore to see someone throw a 9 off the wake that you've never heard of? Im kind of used to it now. Being a good wakeboarder is no longer what's selling products, promotion and interaction with other wakeboarders and selling the vibe is what I think is more prevalent. Bottom line, it's all business - companies are going to 'sponsor' (which may only include giving you a free pair of shorts) who they think is gonna spread the word on their product... _________________ http://www.wakepics.com/view_single.php?medid=16993 one of few trips i got to make to the lake this year |

WakeSyco, woah calm down. I don't think Fauker and kswiss were trashing your bro. I think they were saying that just by his riding alone he doesn't deserve a sponsorship. Look at Cody Hall, in my opinion Alex Hamerick and about 30 other people should have got his part in Relentless. But Cody is the more marketable rider and would sell more boards. I don't think anybody would give Trevor a sponsorship based on his riding alone. They would have to meet him and look at his attidude and see if he is marketable to sell a product. _________________ www.nationsfoundation.org

WakeSyco, I think you need to re-read my post. I think your interpretation of "Is it really that weird anymore to see someone throw a 9 off the wake that you've never heard of?", was a little off.
I said that as a testament to how good a LOT of people are now, just the fact that people you've never heard of are doing the most difficult of tricks shows how much more talented ppl are now. I never said anything about someone not deserving/having a sponsorship if they could do "7's and 9's".
Here's an example of what I'm talking about.. lets say your friend is a good salesman/really into the sport and a pretty good rider but he doesn't do "7s and 9s", or atleast not in that video - so lets say company X is looking to sponsor some ppl, and theyre looking at your friend, and Rider Z - who can do every mobe in the book along with '7s and 9s', but this guy doesnt have the personality, time, motivation etc to be very involved in the sport, hes just one of those guys who is naturally good on a wakeboard. Who are they going to sponsor? Your friend - b/c hes enthusiastic about riding - and hes gonna get the word out and make company X money.
Also - the whole "I'm better than you" thing makes you look like a tool. Youll probably wanna lose that attitude if you're looking to get sponsored. _________________ http://www.wakepics.com/view_single.php?medid=16993 one of few trips i got to make to the lake this year |

you guys are all about what tricks each person can do and I'll tear you up on the lake, remember sponsorships and more about attitude than anything now. Granted some people who are sponsored don't deserve it and some who aren't do, but thats life and you guys just need to chill and let them come to you. _________________ www.soswakeboard.com

POODLE and WakePsyco
Great riding (strides better than myself), but it is true what people are saying about having someone marketable that will sell their product. With that being said re-read some of your posts and I hope your regular conversation is not near as bad as your spelling, grammar and punctuation. I was praying that I would see at least one comma in one of your posts.... That would be a good place to start and then not being a hot head when people give you constructive critisicm. No offense, but I wouldn't want you representing my product if your communication is anything similar to your typing..... Just looks bad on the brand name.
Yeah I know this is only a forum and I hope you don't take offense to it, but that is all I can think about when I read your posts.... Good luck out there and keep enjoying... |

Unless you score a boat sponsorship or are a major pro and getting some real salary and can actually make a living, I never really got why sponsorship is so covetted. It seems most sponsorships mean you get some stickers a board or two, some bindings, and maybe some gear....BFD. I suppose there is some status to it though.
Anyway good video and riding, ralley could be a lot more floaty, but your riding is loads better than most. |

Pretty solid riding, but worthy of a sponsorship, i dont know? 3 out of the 5 guys in my crew can do 7s from both sides of the wake and are unsponsored but are very well known and liked in the wakeboarding community in Tampa. I can't do 7s and i rode for double up for two years until they went down along with No Fear and Utopia. It really isnt about the crazy tricks you are doing, we all have hard tricks that some people can do and some people cant. Me and my crew coach clinics during the summer and that is what really helped me get with double up, not so much my riding. I still have some pretty tech tricks in my bag and i could go out and ride comfortably with anyone but there are so many kids that i have seen recently with the same tricks and are a lot younger. I have to agree with Fauker here and say that it aint about the tricks anymore, its about the person. On a riding standpoint, yes he is talented, but right off the bat on an image standpoint, i dont know if i would pick him up. These companies are selling a product, a product that is often purchased by kids parents for their kids and when they see a kid at a tournament rocking a huge fro, i dont know if that is what is going to appeal to their wallets. I am not passing any judgements because i personally could care less about the image thing because i buy my own stuff but from other peoples perspectives, it is a big deal.
A perfect example which Fauker can back me up here is Rhett Whatley. He is the type of kid you want representing your company. He is the most enthusiastic kid I have ever seen when it comes to wakeboarding, clean cut, and a great rider. When he got first picked up by CWB, his bag of tricks wasn't any better than half the other kids out there (not the case anymore) but his attitude got him to where he is at, CWB national team and Mastercraft national team. Wakeboarding is a business now way more than it used to be and your buddy needs to look at it that way if he wants to make it big |
