I have been wakesurfing for at least one full season and can now do a 180, 360, and carve pretty well, but want to master some new tricks. I have tried to get air, but am still struggling. Is my board too big or am I just not carving hard enough? _________________ AOliver

vision135, yeah it's suprisingly easy to do a surface 360. I'm goofy footed so keep that in mind- I pull the rope to my left hip and then quickly do a handle pass behind my back (you have to be careful that you keep your weight even- that was my largest obstacle) and then surf away. I still want to know ANY tricks to catching air from wakesurfers or surfers! ANY help would be greatly appreciated!!! _________________ AOliver

360s with the rope are easy, i thought you meant without
before you start worrying about air, get good without the handle _________________ 06' watson 138

I can do 3's w/o the rope and I still can't get air. The front gets up but the back stays. _________________ Liquid Force

get a glass jar, and hold it up, than put the cap on really quick, thats the easiest way to catch air imo _________________ 06' watson 138

im a pretty good wakesurfer but havent gotten air either. it seems to me like you have to start pumping and carving and get a ton of speed ant then just pop a standard ollie at the top. |

AZMXER, how close-minded you are. my boat driver doesnt pick me up when i fall so i have to swim for the boat. i hold onto the handle so i can rid longer but 90% of the time i have slack in the line. its still wakesurfing just not freesurfing. |

I have a 5-9 Landlock and a 4-9 Broadcast. It's almost impossible to get that landlock off the water, but the broadcast pops pretty well - it actually rides completely different than the landlock and was a pretty big adjustment going to the smaller board. I have to keep the rope in my hand when I ollie otherwise I'd have a pretty good chance of losing the wave right after landing and would end up only getting one ollie per run - and yes, there's plenty of slack in the rope.

Its all about speed. I surfed behind a moomba where the wave was best at around 9.5 - 10 mph which was great for doing surface spins but was impossible to get the board out. Then I rode behind a Tige where the wave was best around 13.5 mph and popping solid 1 ft + airs wasn't hard at all (although very tiring to do more than a couple in one wave, it really takes it out of me to pump that hard). You just have to drop back as far as possible without losing the wave and then just charge towards the back of the boat. I don't concentrate on a ollie, I concentrate on whipping the tail around to get the fins out and behind the wave. I've been surfing for a long time though and probably pulled my first air in the ocean 10 years ago. |

i get air and i cant do a 180 or a 360... i think alot of it is the board. i road the big broadcast (cant remember the size) and i couldnt do anything it sucked... then i traded it in for a coex and i was carving and getn air like it was nothing.... to get air wut i do is put some weight on my back foot and kinda get a ways away from the boat, pretty much as far away as i can without losing it.. then i put all my weight forward and get speed and at the right time u just twist your torso up then wip it back down... |

Air doesn't really require TONS of speed, mostly you just need to be going "faster" than the wake itself. A huge bottom turn to redirect that momentum and then ollie off the lip and you can get the attached. Not bad for 14, huh? |

Do you have to use surf wax on that board? If yes, doesn't that make a mess in the boat?

We use Sharbait Surfwax on our boards and you're right, at the height of summer the wax will melt and can transfer to the boat or the other boards. Larry Mann at Trick Boardz sells EVA foam for folks that prefer it...we just don't. These boards are purpose built, we compete all over place and are more interested in winning than anything else. So additional "issues" are that they do NOT fit in a board rack and they are glassed light (single layer of 3.7 oz S glass), so after a season you pretty much have to replace them due to pressure dents and dings on the tail or nose. To give you an idea, with fins attached they weigh about 2 pounds. IMHO they are more responsive than anything else out there, the downside is that they are messy and fragile. |
