|
|
i'm having a hard time getting enough height to land the hs air raley. if i go for height i usually end up putting too much weight on my back foot and i end up twisted in the air. i've landed a few but they haven't been really high. most of the time this is what happens. sorry about the sun its hard to see when i lay it out =/; i guess i chose a bad time to try it.

Thanks,
Michael

| pbfoot, you are taking a really nice even edge into the wake which is the most important thing to do. As for your height, you simply did not wait for your pop, and then in the words of the infamous Rhett Whatley, if you want to go real big on any raley based trick, scoop the wake. You litterally want to perform a scooping motion at the base of the wake with your board. Whenever i am learning any sort of glide, i will also put the rope out an extra 5 feet to give me the longest possible edging time, but the main thing here is scooping the wake and waiting a slight bit longer for your pop. Good technique though, you will being doing huge raleys in no time, and it is such an important base to have down because once you start doing glides, you will be thankful for a perfect raley.

| this is going to be dificult to explain but i am going to try my best. When doing a raley, you need to make the transition of a very strong hard edge to the complete opposite positioning at the peak of the wake in a very short time. When you are coming up to the wake, the scoop is making that transition where at the bottom of the wake you push your legs in almost a scooping motion to your other edge and use the wake as almost a ramp. you push your legs through the wake as if you were going to scoop out some ice cream with a spoon. its almost something you need to see in person but i learned it from rhett who is one of the better junior mens riders on the pro tour. it probably doubled my height of my raleys and glides. Basically you aren't just charging the wake and hitting it, you are charging the wake and using technique to really pop and scoop yourself into the air. even on tricks like nuclear glides and indy glides, i do kind of a reverse scoop to really give me my pop.

| if you watch your video, you kind of just go through the wake where when you are getting to the top of the wake you really need to drive your legs through and make that pop

| hot for us is in the 90s, its rare we have a day above 100. we only have a few months out of the year to ride b/c it gets cold so fast and it takes forever for the ice to melt off of the lakes. i'd say we have about 5 months of riding in a year give or take a month if you're a die hard.

kyle, dunno if you'll see this but,
when you say "scoop"... you mean scooping your legs backwards or forwards ?
and "reverse scoop" is...?

I was wondering the same thing - I can land raleys, hoochies, 911s, etc but every now and then, there is this one that is gigantic, the one that makes wakeboarding worth every penny and time spent on the water - I imagine thats when I accidentally use the technique you are speaking of - elaboration would be great
