We saw a girl fall off a lift when the pad that was "fastened" to the seat broke off and slid off the seat..... Not sure what happened to her, but the fall was pretty far....20' or so...... |

Wazzy, how would that happen. if the pad was going to slide off you would think it would slide off the back because the chairs are tilted back, how would she fall off if that happened? or how would it slide off the front, i dono i guess it quite slide off the front quite easily actually. _________________

At our local mountain (it sucks- but what are you gonna do) we thought about jumping off but were afraid to cause we thought they would take our pass away. I probably wouldn't worry about it too much but they always have an eye on you and our pass is a vip- so we didn't want to risk it .
One of my other friends jumped off and said it was fun, but when you hit you take off so fast. I really would like to do it on powder someday. Maybe this upcoming season... _________________ AOliver

i have. in our normal park we have rope tows but every year they build a park on one of the different runs for a comp. and for some reason they put a bank in for no reason, so my friend and i decided to jump off and land on the downside. it wasnt any 8 ft drop either, it was at least 30 feet. |

i was in crested butte 3 years ago and the lift was stopped for like half an hour. it was a powder day and it was my first ride up and i couldn't wait any longer. there was a pretty steep chute dropping to my right through the trees so i just strapped in a dn went for it. probably a stupid idea, could have had my pass clipped on a gorgeous powder day, but it was fun none the less. _________________ ...and when you're done say what a lovely tea party. |

i did it. don't do it. it was about a 5-7 foot drop so it didn't hurt but we got caught. i mean we boarded away immediatly but hte ski patrol had our descriptions and found us about 2 mins later. they threatened to cal the police and send us to jail. but instead they just clipped our passes. beggininning of the day too. it sucked. parents and friend's parents were really pissed. _________________ Remember the Abernathy's in your prayers |

id find a new mountain. any mountain that keeps their lifts open in that high of wind is asking for people to die. and why would you even try to ride in that wind. im 100% sure you are exagerrating (sp). up at Timberline they close the lifts if the wind picks up above 35-40 or so.
ive always thought about it, but i would never actually do it. |

winds at the summit are different than winds at the chairs. im not saying they close the whole mountain, but usually just the higher up chairs. it is very dangerous to be on a chairlift in high winds. |

I was talking with a friend from ski patrol.. She usually tends to be really slack about laws of the hill but here's what she had to say:
when there is a quick weight change like that, the cable usually bounces and catches on the derailment hook.. ppl can die if it doesnt catch on the derailment hook.. so yes.. you will get yur pass clipped, you wont be aloud back on the mtn, and you will probably be going to court _________________

yeah, I contacted our head of ski patrol the other day regarding this thread. In addition to derailment possiblity they will call the sheriff and you will be banned from the mtn and lose your pass. That's at my resort, the only thing our patrol is anal about is ducking ropes, where again you will be screwed. Other than that, they dont' care what you do. |

One of my friends hood got stuck on the chair and he didnt know, so when he was getting off he got pulled back, and there was a wooden wall that the chair go over.( These wernt the new fast chairs that come off the cable when picking/dropping people off)Anyways he went face first into it and the chair was still attached luckly the lifty turned the chair off. It was pretty funny. |

Ian_82, I kid you not. The upper lifts did close (where it was 100) but it was still 80 mph gusts at the top of the open lifts when they came out of the treeline at the top.
Dpierce37, ouch. How did he get in that position?! |
