|
|
I tried wakesurfing for the first time today behind my Pro-v. Its a 2005. I was unable to let go of the rope and keep surfing so I was wondering if anyone has any tips. How far out, how much weight do I need to add, how fast to go. Thanks |

E.M.D.,
Pro-V should be in the 9-10mph range.
You should be able to surf with factory & people on that side effectively. You can throw a few hundred extra pounds in the locker, which will make the surf wake better, but it isn't totally necessary to "find the pocket".
Another note: if you are a goofy foot, you will have trouble behind everything but a RH rotation boat. _________________

Thanks for the info chavez. I actually went out again today and tried again but I didnt read your post before I went.
This time I filled up a fat sac (500lbs i believe) and put in the back corner of the seats (not in the locker) on the passenger side. I got it to where I had slack in the rope and when i let go I could ride it for a while then would float back. I think that with some practice I should be able to get it. But my friend tried also who weigths about 50lbs more then me and wasnt able to really even get slack in the rope. We were going about 11mph to 12, maybe we need to slow down then? But when we go slower then 11 or 10 its mostly all white wash. |

chavez probably a dumb question but... why would riding goofy matter? I usually get a better wave cause I also have the drivers weight on my side. |

The rotation of the prop can cause prop walk at slow speeds. It can also make the boat lean. I think that could be what he's talking about, but I don't know.

After I posted I thought about the prop rotation , makes sense. It still seems like I get the better wave on my boat as opposed to my freinds riding regular. Maybe its just cause they cant do it!!!! ha ha
E.M.D. its like riding a wheelie... find your balence point. on the wave.
maybe thats not the best way to explain it but that worked for me |

Well I went out again, will no luck. I am able to do it for a short time but then drift back. To keep going to I have to make sure to lean forward if im drift back or lean back if I go to far forward. Is this normal? Also should I have both ballasts full or just the passenger side?
Im going out again tomorrow, hopefully ill get it.
Thanks |

Prop rotation is key - the opposing side of the rotation will wash no matter what you do.
Fill both ballast but put people on the side where the rider is. Put your coolers, etc. over there too if you can. The deeper the ass the better. As you add weight, you will inevitably have to go a bit faster, but you should not go over 11 or 12 max.
When you are riding, putting weight on the front foot will increase your speed, on the back decrease. I was taught to think of this as gas pedal/brake. You will need to adjust between gas and brake quite a bit to get it right. _________________

Well I went out again today and got it. I went out with a friend who wakesurfers and wakeskates a lot and he was able to help us out. We filled both ballast and had 5 people on the port side and it worked, it was awesome! I have done more reading on wakesurfing and I am ready to go out again. Thanks for the help Chavez.
Hey if you want to go out let me know, I have no problem bringing more people. |

E.M.D., what color is your boat? Red trim? I saw a Pro-V whizzz by the office yesterday.
I have the unfortunate pleasure of a window office overlooking Eureka (next to Fats) so I get to watch the boats go by as I grind away on the computer. _________________

I dont ever really go by Fats with the boat. Mostly just down Douglas and Auburn-Folsom. i drive by your office often though. |

I think I have seen that one around.
Thanks!
Also forgot to mention I was going about 12mph. I dont know if my guages are off or not but I was pulling my friend at 22mph on the wakeskate and he was at 60ft. |
