I am going to be building a rear bench seat in my boat this winter. Right now there is nothing there. I would like to put a sac underneath the bench, (another project:install ballast system). I was wondering what type of wood I should use? If anyone has anything they feel I might find helpfull I would appreciate it. Thanks

boardstiff, I used hdpe (high density polyethylene). I wouldn't use wood due to rot.

85sn2001,

Can we get some more detailed pics of your setup?

Did you get it completely finished yet?

Hey boardstiff,

If you use plywood - use exterior grade Doug Fir and epoxy...coat the "end grain" several times so it soaks in really well. You can Google "stitch and glue" or "tack and tape" plywood/epoxy boatbuilding and find out all kinds of good stuff - pm me if you need encouragement/means and methods/ whatever - I've built several wooden boats - all in fine shape - no rot

I won't debate the use of wood in boats - there're just too many very old fine wooden boats sailing the world's ocean RIGHT NOW to think otherwise.

It's not the product - it's the install that's typically faulty

Wes
