I run an old "slalom ski" type boat with an outboard motor. My problem is that it throws out a very wide wake. We have played around with rope length and are clearing wake to wake but it is a lot of work. One of the guys thinks we should try going faster and in so doing narrow the wake. Your thoughts?

The faster you go, the more the wake narrows.

My buddy does not board behind his boat too often, so he really does not have the wake dialed in. When I go out with him, I usually set the rope at 65' and have him bump up the speed until the wake stays clean up to 5 feet behind me.

Another thing to consider is rope length from your tow point. I ride at 75' from the tower, which would equal about 65 feet from the tow point on the back of the boat.

Rippa,

goinbig143 has got it right, the faster you go, the more narrow the wake will get. Also, try riding a little longer so you have more time to build your edge.
