Rope Length

I was just curious what boat speed and rope legnth was on the average. I have a 2002 Launch SSV this will be my first time behind it. Just wanted some sort of idea before I went out. I dont want to waste all of my time on the water dialing in the speed and rope legnth.

Speed between 18 - 22, start slower if you're not used to it.

Rope? Well, anywhere from 60 - 80 ft ( 80ft I've seen with foilers ).

Depends on the wake and if/where it breaks. Try 60', the wake will be narrower and the turns tighter. If the turns are too tight extend to 70 and see if you like it.

60? I hate 60. Well, maybe if you are a new rider. There is just no room to edge, I ride at like 73

It depends on the skill level and what you want to do. 60' is nice for somone starting. Even bunny hops seem to go futher.

Don't forget, a 60' rope with handle is 65'.

Good point Leggester. The wake is a factor also.

50' to 75' + and 18mph to 22mph. Start low with both when you're a beginer, and slowly add to them as you get better. The shape of the wake will also affect the speed and rope length, but if you dont know what to look for in a good combination, the chances are you'd be better off with a shorter rope and slower speed.

Big wake mixture of ramp and vert very nice. Just wonder what everyone elses speed and rope length were. I was thinking about 70 ft and still unsure on the speed.

I have ridden for about five years but this is my first boat that kicks a mean wake. I rode behind a 99 boomerang loaded with weight before this. So you can see the confusion.

Well, if you're at a full 75' rope, I'd think a good speed is still around 20-22. It really depends on the comfort level of the rider.

Heck, some days I want 20, then again, when I feel good I want 24.

It's all experimentation, but these should be a good start. Wakehype brought up wake size and shape. That's a comfort level also.

I go where my wake is the cleanest and peakyest < is that a word? Around 70' on my boat.

If you've been boarding for that long and you just want to find whats right on your new boat, I'd start with the same speed and length as your old boat. Then, look at where the wake starts to go washy. You want to adjust the rope length so that you're as far back as you can be without being on the washiness.

Later, after you're used to the new wake, you could play with the speed and see what it does to the wake and your riding. You could then chose what speed you like best and readjust the rope length for that speed. In general, though, the faster you go, the faster things happen, the higher your board rides on the water and the more it hurts when you fall.

Boat looks nice. When I ride I go 22mph and use a 75' line.
