I don't have what you'd call a "ski boat". It's a Hydra Sports 220 DC. I suspect the wake is very messy, but was considering ways to make the wake cleaner. (Or maybe just bigger until I get the technique down)

I was thinking of experimenting with the trim tabs. I thought if I angled the trim tabs into the down position, it would slow the boat down, but certainly I can maintain the 18-22 mph we've been using to learn on, because the boat has a 40mph top speed.

Thoughts?

nope outboard. And a damn nice one. I <3 that boat. Putting the tabs down will lift the stern up, giving you a rampier (less steep) wake. Better for learning to go w2w, worse for going really really high.

The impression that I am getting (from reading around these boards) is that we should keep the tabs in the full up position, and also trim up the engine a little. Eventually you can adjust it by adding weight.

So the next thing that comes to mind if there's such a thing as an aftermarket ballast system. I notieced Mastercraft X-Series has that feature. I just wonder if they need to be designed into the boat.

Edit: and there it is. lol.

my dads deep sea fishing boat has trim taps and they just help left one side of the boat up or down for a smoother ride, i haven't really looked at the wake when he changes it though to see if it has an effect.

The reason you need to trim up is to bring the bow down a little. On i/o's and Outboards, the bow is usually a key part to the wake

HINT: trimming up pushes the bow higher. To make the wake nice, trim up and add ALOT of weight to the bow.
