hi...

we all know that it is necessary to stand tall at the wake to get a pop and get air...

i don't think anybody has discussed this... my question is.. is it more beneficial to:

1. gradually stand tall as you approach the whitewash (pop gradually)

or

2. do an abrupt pop.. stand tall very quick so that you are pushing down on the water very abruptly.

which one will is better ? in terms of control and air ?

thanks and regards !

Hey sequitur,

Can't recall who said it...but the term was EXPLODE off the wake, not hop or jump, it's a whole body thing.

Whitewash? Maybe clean up the wake first, then jump it??

Wes

I think he means the whitewash created by the spray of the boat. You lake riders never get to see it (freshhwater's alot less foamy) but if you ride on salt water there is a foam line about 6 feet away from the wake all the way in.

You always want to time it so you're fully extended at the time you're leaving the top of the wake. With that said, I think it depends on how fast you're cutting and how hard the wake is when to start standing up. If you're taking a slow cut into the wake you can probably wait until you're coming up the wake to start standing tall. But on a faster cut or a softer wake you're going to have to start earlier. It's just something you'll have to practice and work out for yourself.

I would say on an average cut I probably start standing tall in the trough of the wake. But I'm 6'2 200#s so it might be less for others.

Most people stand tall too early (myself included) what helps me is that I pretend the wake is 1' higher and I want to be standing tall by the time I reach that point.
