Can anyone name me a good brand if I want to get a sound system in my boat. I don't want anything real expensive, just something that sounds decent. Also, I was wondering if the reception on the radio and satalite radio was very good out on the water.

Define expensive. The cheapest you can get a decent system for is about $900, and that's with some legwork.

yeah, I have a grand easy in mine, and it still sounds like crap....it is pretty expensive to get a nice sound out of a boat...lots of power needed since there is no cab to keep the sound in like in a car. Sony headunits are my choice because they are the least expensive for what you get....you HAVE to have a 4 volt pre-out for your amps on the boat to the speakers...This is because the cables are usually much longer from the deck to the amps, and you will have a lot of voltage drop due to that coupled with the lack of a true ground on a boat. XM will work wonderfully on a boat, the sky is the antenna!

Depending on how your boat is set up, You may want to keep in mind finding a deck that has wired remote capabilities. Some Sonys and Pioneers have them. My deck sits in the glove box and I just picked up 2 wired remotes off Ebay for 30 bucks each. I have one mounted by the throttle and Im going to mount the other one on/near the transom(havent decided yet). That way when we are swimming I still have control Wink

first off your going to need atleast 4 6.5 speakers, or 2 6x9s and 2 6.5s. my favorite brand for 6.5 speakers are alpine and the expensive line of pioneers.

then if you want to crank the sysem loud and have very good clarity, then you'll need an amp. my favorite amps are jl audio and rockford fosgate. rockford fosgate is about a hundred bucks cheaper per amp.

for subs my favorite are jl audio's for insane power, and rockford fosgate again for a cheaper and still very good sub.

head units, the alpines used to be good but they've been lacking lately. sony is so so, i'd take alpine over sony any day. clarions and pioneers are also alright.

in my boat i have a JL audio amp/sub , a sony headunit that came with the boat, and the advanced line of pioneer speakers.
with that setup your going to spend at least 1300 bucks. with install.
