I've gotten pretty good at going w2w but I still feel like my technique is poor. When I approach the wake and stand tall I think I lose a lot of the tension that I've built up. I don't know if it matters but my bindings are not really slanted forward for knees bent riding. How do you all keep tension and a hard edge but still manage to stand tall?

pretend like someone's holding the rope for you on land... lean against the rope in a half seated position... while still leaning against the rope, stand up. That's how.

Heyseraph_falls,

Get someone in the boat to watch the BOTTOM of your board...they should see more and more of it as you edge progressively towards the wake...a video can help too (I can't afford the camera)

seraph_falls, Everyone is throwing out their own suggestions so I shall follow suit. What I have my students do, is take a cut from 5' out or so... Work on exploding up, (as though you are squating weights), but at the peak of the wake, dig your heels, or toes, into the wake itself.Try 3 pops from 5 feet, then from 10', then 15', and once you get there, edge out as far as possible... The shorter cuts will promote exploding off the wake, and feeling the pop, AND, keeping an edge up, and through it.

Wow, I love me some comma!

Blake put it best, if you are heel side think about digging in harder with your heels as you ride up the wake. I think standing tall is a poor term to use cause if you are in a seated position and try to stand tall there is a natural tendancy to let off you edge.

deepcove, hence why you need to PRACTICE. That tendency is there but its pretty simple to get rid of, all it takes is time on the water.

What I do to practice the standing tall and edging position is to actualty do a few carves towards the wake in a stand tall, lock kneed position. At the last minute I turn away from the wake and do it again. This helps give me the feel for standing tall and edging at the same time.

For my first few approaches I will use the same technique to approach the wake. And I will focus on edging in the tall position from the start of the approach to the end.

I figure once I get this down I can work on approaching seated, then exploding to the stand tall and edging position Im so familair with.

This is a little excersize Im using to work on pop before I get to go W2W. My 2cents.

For me it takes baby steps.

Thats right...you gotta practice digging your heals in harder as you edge all the way up the wake.
