Okay.. you may have read my post from before but I was wondering how big tower speakers really needed to be to hear it all from the water/while riding.

I'm planning on making some speakers FYI haha. Well any help would be appreciated. Thanks Very Happy

the speaker diameter will dictate the size of a sound wave it will throw on one stroke, but honestly, excursion is what will determine how far you can hear it more than anything...(excursion is speaker face travel up and down inside the basket)..the more power you can put to that speaker, the harder it will throw, and the longer the sound wave will travel before it fades off. Typically, 6.5" speakers are good for towers, because they have decent surface area, and throw a fairly low frequency wave (bass) and they have good power handling so you can put the juice to them and make a long throw, say hmm...75 feet or so?? Wink 5 1/4" speakers will do the trick too, but they wont throw as deepa bass note, but they will be as "loud" as a 6.5"...any bigger, and you will have a HUGE speaker hanging from your tower, and I will make fun of it when I see it...(joking). If you start with 2 speakers, you will increase your SPL (sound pressure level) or volume by 3 db (decibels) for doubling power (i.e. 20watts to 40watts) or doubling the speaker surface area (i.e. two speakers to 4 speakers), and if you do both then you will gain 6db. Essentially, 3db is "twice as loud"...for lack of a better comparison.
