|
|
Alright guys planning my yearly trip boarding. Been to Breck the last two times, and have done Vail, Beaver Creek, and Steamboat. Wanna go to Tahoe, everyone says it's awesome.
But I have no idea about anything there, I am looking for places to stay that are close to where the fun is, I mean near the mountain, but also near the bars (i hear the bar scene is great) Now the guys I am riding with aren't dead ass poor but we are extremely cost conscious. Not looking for big frills, just a good place to ride boards and skiis, near all the fun action, and close to the mountain if that's possible.
Help me out guys, I have no idea where to look out there. Help me plan a kick ass trip for the guys!

Obviously you will be staying in South shore. Most of the resorts are between 1 and 45 mintues away. Just stay in a casino hotel and enjoy. When are you going?

And this is why I need help. I have no idea what the hell is the difference
Where are the good slopes? The fun bars? Casino's are not important. Waste of time for us. We want to be able to party, ride some sick slopes with great views, and just have a blast.
Now I know I need help planning this.

haugy,
Hey I went out there last year and had a great time. I found a cheaper hotel in south tahoe. I think it was a comfort inn. Hot tub and stuff. I know there are a lot of riders on this forum who go there regulary so maybe try to bump this post when it gets closer to the season.

There are lots of places to stay in South Lake, there is more activity as you near the CA NV state line, as the casinos are right on the border. The closer you get the more expensive the rooms get. Not necessarily expensive, but around $80-90 for a roach motel. A little farther from the state line you'll pay about the same but get a little better accomodations. You can also get decent rooms in the Casinos as well. I like the Lakeside Inn myself, decent rooms, decent price, $1 draft happy hour and $9.99 prime rib.
As far as riding, Heavenly's gondola comes right into South Lake near the state line. Heavenly has some of the best views in Tahoe, definately worth a visit if you are coming this way. But, due to it's location everyone goes there. If you have a rental car and want to get some better riding in check out Kirkwood and Sierra. Kirkwood gets the most snow in Tahoe, it's about a half hour outside South Lake.
If you do have a car and are here for a week, I would venture North at least one day too. Squaw is legendary, and I hear great things about Alpine Meadows. Alpine has $39 lift tickets too.
Basically if you have a car, your options are endless. You can get reservations at most Tahoe hotels through hotels.com, just check the map and see how centrally located they are.
And don't forget to let us know when you are coming, even if we can't meet up on the slopes there's always time for drinking. I'm sure we'll be setting up a WB.com Tahoe trip again this year at some point.

Dude southshore forsure... if you stay in that area they got three resorts in the area. The closest wich is like a second away is heavenly. I personally don't pefer that, to many damn tourists. Then there is seirra which is a moderate sized resort but don't suggest. Dude go to KIRKWOOD. It will be worth it, its about 40 min south of south shore. Its badass. The got some huge vertical, a good park, and a sick bar called the battered bagger. My grandparents own a hotel called Elizebeth lodge, its like a half a mile from the stateline. Its hella cheap, but your prolly gonna go all out. If so go to harvey's. But there is a sick club called club altitude, its bad ass and hella girls. THe buffets are bad ass too... can't miss those. But go to kirkwood, its legendary, hit up the battered beaver and the hit up altitdude... trust me. Good luck bro. LEt wakeboard.com, where you stayin, can meet up and drink, i gotta house in christmas valley which is 10 to 15 min away from stateline. Sick house with a huge party room and a huge Bubb Rubb deck. LAter bro.

haugy, Your best bet may be renting a condo if you have enough friends. As far as riding, Alpine & Squaw are the best IMO. Kirkwood is awesome too but a little smaller. Heavenly sucks because there are too many people. Sierra is good for parks just watch out for the big table tops near the top (What was that snapping sound? Oh it was my ACL). You could also check out the cat-skiing that Chavez and I tried to do last year.

the riding is best on the North shore. You have more and better options, but the partying is better on the South shore. Your choice on which is more important. J-Ro hit it on the head. Squaw and Alpine, and Northstar if you like to ride park. If you are coming to Tahoe Squaw is a must IMO.

Alright here we go, from what I gather, North Side=good riding, South side=good partying
Now here's where I can't decide. Me and one other guy board, the other 2 ski, I am the only one who likes parks, so unfortunately we'll probably need something with some parks but good, long, and fast runs will be the majority.
Partying will definitely be high on the list, hell, it's vacation!!!
I am thinking early February, is that a good time to go out there? And if yall are planning a trip, when? I think it would be fun as hell to catch up with a bunch of yall and ride and party.
Basically my retarded butt needs someone to plan this darn thing for me since I am apparently non-compis mentus(aka stupid)

I would stay in South shore and drive to the hills you want to visit. That way you are driving when your sober and when you party, you can stumble home as opposed to driving the windy road up and down the lake.

haugy, Kirkwood, IMO rivals the best the northshore has to offer, it may not be as big, but it has some kickass terrain. Especially if you are willing to hike for 10 minutes. Not to mention they have a better weather (snow) pattern.

Stay in South Shore. Depending on how long you are there and if you have a car you can ride a day or so on the Northshore and south Shore....
Let us know when you will be there! Remind me not to keep drinking while brain may be bleeding...

Bethany, more like, remind you not to fall on your face on sliders.
You're welcome!

J-Ro, I don't have a picture of that.
Maybe you should scan in some pics of your ortho surgery for us?

Bethany, yeah that's where we are probably gonna stay, but does anybody have any recommendations on places? There are sooooo many. I just need a place to pass out, but one of my buds wants it to be a cool trip.
Nice shiner B. Did you do that on a wakeboard slider, or a rail in the snow?
We're gonna plan to be up there either the last week of Jan or first week of Feb.
Man if we can get a bunch of people out there, that would be friggin nuts!

Haugy,
Lakeside Inn... doesn't look that nice, but it's the place to be. Rooms are cheap (like 100 bucks) and drinks are cheap too. Unless you buy like 15 jager shots.
That Shiner was a week later, looking pretty decent there. From a Box in the snow. Let's all remind everyone that I also had a severed nerve in my face ( I couldnt feel my teeth for months) and a gnarly headace( nothing a car bomb couldnt fix). Emergency Catscan showed up negative of course. But that F on the midterm I took still remains...
J-Ro... we suck!
Thanks again Tom!

Bethany, props for being a soldier! HA HA sorry I am laughing at the shots, and the shiner, again nice, I can just see it, board slides out while on the table top, you try and make it to the side, but nope, SLAM!!!! Man those shots look tempting yet dangerous.
AH the joys. I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!

Sorry, its only funny cause i have done damage also, went on a rail and royally screwed it up and hit my back then my head, no blood but one hell of a goose egg, not too mention my GF freaked cause it looked like my back had been hit with a 2x4!

Lakeside is probably a good option. Cheap happy hour so you can get drunk on a budget and a quick cab from some good night life.
Then day trip to the hills you want to ride.
I remember those Jager shots... They got me going on that 5 bill winning streak (thanks to Kate and her craps tips). I decided to give it all back at the blackjack table. I just wanted another hundo to pay for my trip and season pass.
