Im close to getting a Tantrum but the take off still screws me up. I know at wakeboarder.com they say its a "trip flip" and im supposed to like trip the board off the wake. This doesnt seem to work for me. Ive seen people do tantrums and they dont trip off the wake at all. Does this "tripping" thing actually work or is there a better way?

The trip flip really does work, and you should give it a try. The trip flip will actually give you amazing pop. Visualize yourself cutting in.
Now, at the bottom of the wake stand tall (w/knees slightly bent), about half to 3/4 of the way up the wake, shift weight to your toe edge and get ready to feel the pop.
Go in your car and, (w/ no other cars around) Laughing, tap your brake with your toe. Quick and hard. That's the motion you want to do w/ your toes. Keep your weight 50 50. I know, I know, I have wacky ways of explaining things. But it works 4 me.

Good luck to you

T-BAG, Are you throwing it into the flats? And grayrock15, the trip allows you to get the board back quicker and push it higher up.

T-BAG,
Are you in the back seat when you land?
Could you post a video?

Last year, my first year, I started trying these. I was able to do the trip flip thing and all. I just didn't have the height to make a tantrum work. I'd get 1/2 to 3/4 of the way around and crash. This year, I've really worked on my height. I can get 4-5 feet of air consistently. Maybe even 6, but who's counting. I also started working on the backroll this year (haven't landed it yet, but I'm close). Sad

But my tantrums have gone to pot. I can't seem to get the trip anymore. I'm pretty sure it's all in my timing. I think I'm switching edges -way- too early. I get no trip whatsoever. What usually ends up happening is sort of a regular HS jump with me facing backwards waiting for the trip.

Just ranting a little bit. grayrock15, I'd give you some advice, but I don't think you want it from me... All I can say is, the trip thing used to work for me. And it felt like I would do a tantrum if only I had a bit more height. Now that I have the height, I've lost the trip. Let us know if you get it...

Derek

whats up yall

i am just a beginner but i am almost landing the tantrum too. i have no wake man. the way i found out about the trip is i was fixing to jump with very choppy water and the board turned sideways and there i went man.
so what i am tring to say is the trip works and it makes it easier to do. if you edge in hard then right when u go up the wake turn hard and look up it will trip u. if your having problems getting around hold the rope close to you and this will make u rotate faster. i hope that helps.

edge at the top of the wake stand tall and flaaten out the board. Let go of the handle with your back hand. it will flip you into space. atleast thats how mine goes

I'm not all that good at tantrums (just learned them like a month ago) but i do land them like 5 outta 6 times. I had no idea what to do, so basically i just made up my own "technique". I cut out really hard, and cut back in really really hard. At the last second, right before hitting the wake, I turn my board parrelel to the direction of the boat (or at least kind of close). I stand up tall and throw my head and shoulders back and jump as hard as i can. I don't really tuck in, i kind of just let my body flip itself. SOmetimes, I'll tuck in and pull an indy tantrum, but I've found that tucking that much is harder. I don't know if anyone else does it the way i do, but it works for me.

Your sometimes tucking because your getting the lift straight up. throwing your shoulders back in the direction of travel makes it almost impossible to tuck for an indy tantrum. always try to go up with your chest not back.

Now I guess I'm a little confused on the tripping thing. how should the board be oriented with respect to the boat when you are at the top of the wake?

Get your board and shoulders in line sideways with the rope. You can push a little more by pushing more on lead front toeside edge as you go up the wake.
