its their kiteboarding model using the new tech. i thought some of you might prefer this to the current LF wake boots being offered for 06.

Their wake knowledge makes LF far exceed what other kite companies offer.

jason_ssr, I thought one of the tricks in Kiteboarding was removing the board from your foot, poking it out, then sticking it back in...This obviously wouldn't allow that anymore.

Im using BEST Pro bindings right now, but wont hesitate to try these new LF for sure, if they are as easy in and out as they claim. For board im using the BEST Pro Limited 138. I know Shannon from back in the day wakeboarding (ex LF rider too!) and Im stoked for his company. if I wasnt on his gear, id be on the LF stuff for sure. im suprised more wake companies dont put out some kite stuff as they have a longer season and its the fastest growing watersport. lots of people wanting boards.

Dpierce37, There are several styles of kiteboarding. There is wave style, which is obviously riding in waves and is about bottom turns and slahes and less about jumping. There is big air, which is what you are talking about where you send the kite huge and take the board off and float slowly back to the ground. then there is wakestyle which is more agressive moves where you ride like at the cable on an indian line (I got to say it again!). This is doing wakestyle moves while underload, instead of floating. you land hot instead of a floaty slow landing. This is considered newschool riding and the other two are old school. The young guys like the wakestyle adrenaline rushes and the the iolder guys like the big air mellow stuff.

in all honesty, its all a blast, and I do it all. my background is obviously wake, so thats what I do most and its what Im best at. Big air is very easy, waves is intense natural danger, like surfing, and wake is just hard, ya know, getting stack while riding behind a boat that doesnt stop.

didn't realise there were different styles of riding. makes sense though. I wan't to get into kiteboarding ASAP...funds are lacking though! HAHA I did get pretty good at controlling the kite the first and last time I flew one. Just ran out of room at the park on the mountain board I was strapped too.

Ok, I'm sorry and I'm probably going to get bashed for this, but here's my opinions:
1. When I look at bindings like those, the Shanes, and Watsons, all I can see is an inline skate with no wheels.
2. If I was going to put my foot in something like that it would have to be able to release from the board, because that just looks like it locks you down way too much.
3. Granted, I haven't felt them or even seen them other than pictures, but all of the new boots look really stiff, which is good if you have bad ankles like me, but what about really tweaking out grabs?
4. 5 minutes in the water I ride in and that pretty white material would be a blotchy brown color...ew.
5. They look really comfortable and supportive.
6. Whatever happened to bindings being adjustable on the overlays and not just laces? Remember when you had to take the boot apart and line the screws up with the holes in the overlays, ahh, those were the days. I remember sitting for HOURS fighting with my Moon boots back in '98, Ultra Sucs in '99, Belmonts in '01 and Nice PRS1s in '03. Bindings now are just too easy.
Again, just my opinion on these boots and others.
Later
Tiff

jason_ssr, could you just attach those to a wakeboard? I mean, what are the major construction differences? Are there really any differences that prevent this? Of course wakeboard boots are designed for wakeboarding and ditto for kiteboarding, but what's the crossover capabilities? I am just curious about this, I don't even kiteboard, have seen it, and had a buddy that did for a while, but not me myself.

savage3221, There are no major construction differences. For the last few years LF has marketed the ultra's to their kiteboarding side under a different name. If you go to liquidforce.com and check out the kiteboarding section, you'll see that the bindings are the same as the wake. They are the exact same thing from what I've seen.

imo they are still fugly. i like gum on my skate shoes but on my bindings... i also think it would be a hassle getting into them kiteboarding, but ive never kiteboarded so that statement is based on absolutely nothing/

savage3221, The construction is identical. The only difference kiteboarders are concerned with is getting into them without lube. I hear that with these new ones, it much like a snowboard boot feel. The big propaganda pitch with these is that you can slide your foot in even if you are wearing a pair of socks!!! So, generally binding construction is the same, and board construction only differs in rocker and density (kiteboard doesnt need to be as thick)

jason_ssr, how fast do you travel on a kiteboard? It seems like it would be hard to get up to the full 20mph to get on top of the water on a lake. In the ocean it would seem like you could boost 30-40 mph. Is it difficult to control these differences of speed?

Those bindings look pretty sweet for kiting though. They look really easy to get in and out of..

I think Rev. Jason loves giving info to possibly convert people to kiteboarding. Laughing

So Jason, how big of a lake do you usually ride on to get the necessary winds?

Brad, you can go as fast as you want on a kite on either body of water. Riding a kite is much like riding a bike down a steep hill. Left alone, it will accelerate quickly. You ride the brake to control speed rather than pedal. In kiting, the kite constanly wants to accelerate. You use the edge of the board to "ride the brake" much like when you cut out behind a boat. You know how you can get on the outside and edge super hard and slow the boat down, the kite is the same way (without as much effort and without the quick speed recovery of the boat).

The kiteboard is also flatter, so it isnt as rough a ride in the chop like a wakeboard is. it cuts through most of it and rides faster.

Ontrider, you can ride on any sized lake. The bigger the lake the better, but not because of room, but because of wind turbulance. As wind passes over land it geets very turbulant. As it passes over water, it smooths out. so the more water it passes over, the smoother the pull with less gusts. You learn to take the gusts. Riding on an inland lake is like sharing a riding spot with another boat. it isnt perfect, but you get used to it and have fun. There are good periods and bad periods. Riding on the coast where the wind has passed over thousands of miles of water, and it comes in butter smooth. that is equivilent to riding 6am glass. So silky smooth that you can focus on other things.

jason_ssr, so do you normally hit Lewisville or where when you kite locally? What wind speed are required to have a decent day out on the water? I'd assume you're a weather junkie when you're looking to ride. I know I am and I'm just looking for butter Very Happy

Well, while inland, your concern is launch/landing area, and its orientation to the wind direction. While on the coast it generally blows the same all the time.

When kiteboarding, you dont want the wind blowing too much in the onshore or offshore direction. You want the wind to be blowing parallel or a close variant. You dont want there to be any obstruction upwind to block the wind, or any downwind you may hit. So, in Dallas we ride Lewisville from North-Northeast at that park just NW of the big dam. Wind is smoother as it is coming across alot of water. You do have the dam directly downwind so you do need to consider it if you get blown too far down. You cant ride there on the south because the dam blocks the wind. On south wind, after work we ride Grapevine. It is a sketchy launch but good once you get out. We dont like it, its just convienent. On a south wind where we arent crunched for time we hit Hubbard or Roberts (usually Roberts as I30 is downwind from you at hubbard...scary!). On NW wind we hit the south shore of grapevine. Good spot for beginners and advanced. Benbrook is a good beginner spot for south winds as well. Havent scouted much else, so if you know any good potential spots, let me know.

Yep we all watch the weather, so we know when its going to blow, but more important, why. You dont want to ride in wind being pushed by a storm, even if its sunny and far off. it can generate microbursts that can make the ride a rodeo.

"Decent" is pretty subjective. I can get on a big baord and go downwind at a beach for miles looking at the scenery and just playing as I ride around in about 10-12 mph on 21m kite. In order to ride and stay upwind (so you dont have to walk) I need about 14mph on a 21m kite and my 138cm wakeboard type board. (Im about 200lbs......ok, 210) I can ride, carve tansitions, and jump a little. 21m kite is powerful, but slow moving so you cant get too aggresive with it. At 17mph I can get on a smaller kite. The quicker kite allows for more wakestyle moves as it is quicker in the sky. At 20 mph I have good power on the medium sized kite and I can really push upwind fast, jump 25ft, do big powered wakestyle stuff, and generally ride really agrressive and can fatigue quickly. At 25mph to 30mph Im on a small kite riding really fast, jumping REALLY high and because the kite is so small, so strong, and so fast, i pay dearly for the slightest mis-steering, HAHAHA!!!
