Just wanted to tell you all about my experience today on the water.
If you don't know we picked up our new v-ride on friday so my boy and I go out this morn to get a dawn ride in we get the boat ready and putt out to the center of the lake.
When we realize that a neighbor is out footing, I told my friend we should wait and he agreed barefooters don't ride long so he gets his board ready as I get the rope he sits on the sundeck and we watch as the footer does some turns and one footers. As he finishes their boat starts heading towards ours. They pull along side and begin thanking us for waitting I say "No problem thats the way I was taught to use the lake" and follow with "we dont need to fight for glass." I ask him to come aboard the new boat he is a 55 year retired state trooper and an experienced footer and skier.
We go ride and he trys wakeboarding for the first time. He loves it and again thanks us for sharing the lake. "I tell thats OK there enough bad impressions of wakeboarders"
He really liked the boat seeing that he had an 89 Malibu Skier and I let him drive. I told anytime he sees us out wave us down he always will have a pull on our boat.
It was a great day
ITCH

V rides ROCK. My story isn't as good but I'll share it since we have a Vride too. The other week we were out on the river and had to pass a super old Malibu with an extended pylon. Riding behind the Bu was probably a 10 year old kid who looked like he was having a great time. I was pulling my bro and the kid waved so I waved back and i'm sure my rider did too. Then I had to turn on the river and ended up passing him the other way and he waved again, this went on for a long time..and he'd wave every time.

I just liked that for some reason, maybe it was cause the whole "malibu sticking together" type thing or maybe it was just cause he seemed like he was having fun and I like when people are polite and wave, even if it is over and over. I made every effort to make sure i returned the wave even though i really had to focus on my pull.

malibu_inverted,

I try and wave to every boat, whether I'm behind the wheel or behind the boat. Mostly a courtesy thing, but also a bit of safety. By doing so (when driving) I know where boats are in relationship to me at all times. A coworker of mine is out with a broken leg after 2 boats collided on Lake Barryessa. No casualties thank god, but a few broken bones, a few concussions.... lucky if you ask me.

I was out on the river this past weekend and waved at EVERY boat that passed us, maybe 4 waved back. Most of them were fisherman in their bass boats. What's up with that! Are they too stuck up to wave at me when I'm trying to be friendly. Most of them were starting at me while I waved and they still didn't have the courtesy to even raise their hand and give me a half hearted wave. Now, there was an I/O out there teaching a guy to wakeboard. Each time we went by they waved at us and we waved back. It just so happened that we were stopped picking up a rider when their guy got up and rode for the first time, both of our boats went nuts. I have no clue who they are and may never see them again, but for that instance we were all best friends cheering on a fellow rider. That's what it is supposed to be about.
Just had to share/vent.

malibu_inverted...ya i wave at all boats too..kinda ticks me off when they don't wave back..i don't mean to offend anyone on here that has a ski boat..but a lot of the people that have ski boats around here rarely wave back...and the kids on those boats are the worst..a lot of them will turn their head just to keep from waivin back...maybe its shyness idk...still try tho..always good to be friendly

Tiffanator....about the fishermen..i fish and wakeboard...and from having experience just sittin there in a small bass boat when a big ol wave comes ur way...well..its not very pleasent when ur standing up and u almost get thrown out of the boat while ur trying to fish..a lot of ppl that are out pullin ppl will just go right by fishermen not caring and they get rocked constantly...at the lake i go to the fishermen know where the pleasure boaters go and what times they are out there..so we usually don't have that problem..but a lot of them still won't wave even if ur just passing by....

and wtg itch..have fun w/ur new boat

I try to flip off every jet ski that follows 15 feet behind me on my sets who try to jump our wake... God, I just flat out hate jet skis.

When we have students out on the lake, the jet ski guys usally come around noon, and tear up our personal cove... Its sad!

Smokinheels07, we were on the main channel of the river, the fisherman weren't stopped, they were driving by. Most fisherman know better than to try to fish in the main channel, there are lots of small shoots and bayous that are much better fishing. These guys were driving by, many of them while we were changing or picking up riders. I guess people just aren't friendly anymore.
Also about fisherman, the lake I ride on the fisherman know where the boat path is and where it will be rough, and fish there anyway, then get mad because I go by them over and over... if I don't go by them I get fussed at by the water patrol for not following the boat path. It is a lose-lose situation. I'm 23 and have been boating since I was 4 months old, so I know common courtesy.
Why can't we all just get along???? Crying or Very sad I just want someone to wave at me.... Very Happy

we took a ski out with us last time we took the boat out. we were using it to get different angles of pix. but to the other wake boats it probably looked like we were annoying the boat we were with, haha.

The main people that seem to give us a wave are the people who pull their boat or boarder way too close to our boat for no apparent reason. Like the guy two weeks ago who pulled his inexperienced kid to within 5 ft of the bow of our boat......and then waves as they whiz by at 30mph.

I'm getting tired of people waving back at me. Can't they see that I'm working on my tournament run and trying to get it dialed. The Judge Wave has been my bread and butter for a number of years now. Everytime I wave & they wave back I totally forget my next big trick (the Touch the Water). It's really frustrating because i've been working on that one FOREVER!!!

not too bad. problem is the guy that was taking the pix, didnt trust anyone else to use his camera while riding backwards on the waverunner. i dont think he had much of an eye for good wakeboarding pix. but with a little more practice, im sure we could get some good shots.

I just want to bring the wave and crowded thing back here. If i go on the river on a weekday we maybe will get a foolish fisherman to fish in the dead center of the river, but he usually moves after 2 passes (sorry buy lots of logs along shore)...the thing that stinks is on weekends when the river fills up.

Now I'm a malibu owner. Love them to death respect other Bu's on the water to death. I also like ANY inboard boat. if it's MC, CC, moomba whatever..but I was pissed off the other week. It was crowded, all the boats are trying to make it work out. Then we get two old mastercraft owners. Wouldn't give the time of day to the Bu owner. They totally ignored us and wouldn't give acknowledge us. I mean that's fine, you don't need to wave or whatever. But then one was coming head on with us, just putting down the dead center of the river. I had a person behind me and a boat next and forwardto me pulling someone. This guy purposely forced me close to shore and into shallow loggy water.

I have nothing against other inboards or any boat. I understand we all gotta share the water. But this guy was just trying to be in the way. Pushing a 45grand new boat to the side to hit stumps vs his 10grand old boat going 5mph. But you can spare me the time and not go on to say "he didn't wanna wreck his", etc. It just made me mad and of course i'd like to protect my baby Wink

ya i get that..we don't have that prob at our lake..not many stumps..but i'd wanna stay torwards the center too...he coulda just moved over a lil to the other side so you didn't have to put ur rider in danger...and..what do u mean by Bu's?..i've seen ppl use that before...whats it stand for?? lol i feel stupid askin that..o well..

short for malibu.

we had a run in 2 weekends ago. the lake wasnt too crowded, and the water wasnt quite good enough for riding, so we decided to pull a tuber, and while whipping him around to launch him off the "double up" another boat came up right at our wake, the tuber luckily saw him and jumped off. no sooner did the tuber hit the water that the tube smacked the side of the guys boat. luckily our driver knew the guy, so it wasnt too heated, but it made for a scary moment. you would think this guy, not towing anyone, would take a wider route around us. the deal with where we ride, is its back near a private launch, and theres tons of houses along the beach. during the day, its mostly tubers, and skiers and the water gets real bad. about an hour before sunset, they all go to their docks and go in, then the water gets real good. luckily weve only had to share the water once and that was with an X-7. other than that, weve only had to deal with the evening rush of people coming back to the docks.

Great job itch. I wont go as far as giving a pull like you but I try to stay in different coves than the skiiers because they are the only courteous boaters out there. Its especially necessary to respect the barefooters because they cant have chop whatsoever. Going 40-60 mph on bare feet cant handle the smallest ripple. Way to rep for the educated wakeboarders.

About the waving, I always wave to boats mainly because I am a wakeboarder. I know that everybody thinks that I am a punk whos dad is rich for cruising around in or behind my 05 VLX. Thats why I always wave at other boats even while riding to hopefully break the grudge so instead of complaining to cops that my wake is swamping them or making a huge wake in the cove that I am in, they will enjoy watching me and realize that wakeboarders can be nice guys and respect us more.

Wow Ian_82, that would have sucked if your tuber wouldn't have jumped off. Talk about a law suit. Pretty lucky on the knowing the guy whos boat you hit. I'd like to think i would be calm if it was my boat. But tubers on a river irritate me (lake is fine) so I maybe would be irrate.
