i was curious about how people pace themselves to learn new tricks. do you go for slightly more technical tricks, or do you do easier tricks? such as, whirlybird or tantrum first, raley or backroll, etc.

for me, i like to learn the basic variations of tricks. i am working the rest of this year on doing all of my tricks with backside 180's. i have them all with frontside 180's, like scarecrow, tantrum 2 fakie, etc. i am just learning it by all of the 180's, then start working on fs 360 inverts, and stuff like that.

has anyone ever heard of these crazy new kinds of trick where you dont even get inverted, i think they're called spins. yea thats it spins. come on spinnas, there needs to be way more spin representing going on.

oh yea, also learn your basics first, because when you have a rock solid foundation, you eventually start to develop some pretty sick style.

after I get my w2w grabbed 180's and backside 180's down, both sides, I want to start working backrolls and tantrums. After working on those, start some 3's. At the end of sets, if it was a good set, I will just charge the wake and spin a H/S 3. I always let go of the handle though.

my pace = slow.

This season I got the scarecrow, solid method grabs, indy grabbing my tantrums, grabbing my 3s, ollie bs180, inside out bs180.

With the exception of the scarecrow I've just been adding slow progress onto my existing tricks. The goals for the rest of the season are w2w bs180s and a raley. Next year it's the ts5 and the whirly

last year I had HS FS 180's (and switch), TS FS 180, and the Backroll. the entire summer I was a in trying the new things, until this month. This month I have learned the HS BS 360, tantrum, r2r, and attempting scarecrow and switch 3s/5s. I progress quickly when I grow the balls... but I usually don't, so I move slowly Laughing Embarassed

Thomas P., I like to lay low and bust the spins out on the lake....

I would not say inverts blow but they do let little kids think they are good when they can't even jump the wake TS.... Then us Old School guys show them what style is all about... while matching every invert they have in their bag just for good measure....

I would say I spin better but I learn inverts faster. I attest that to being a good rider from both sides of the wake and having a great foundation. If you can spin from both sides of the wake you have to have some type of skills.

I'm currently working on grabbing ALL my spins TS and HS, FS and BS.

I am the slowest learner ever. My fear is the only thing holding me back. I have been riding for almost 6 years. I learned a wake jump just last year. 4th year! Then after about 100 falls I learned a TS 1 wake 180.

I always slow the boat down to about 15 mph and huck the trick 1 wake for the first time. Then I land it or at least get really close on it 1 wake, then learn it w2w. It took me a month of riding nightly to learn a HS 3. I learned a TS 3 a lot faster but then I went to camp and they told me to try backrolls and TS 5s at full speed. And who would think that those are the only tricks that I have really tried and never landed. Maybe because I didnt do them 1 wake first. And after my worst fall ever on a TS 5 attempt, I got a mental block and didnt land a 3 for another month. I wouldnt even try them for 2 weeks. It was horrible. I still havent relearned my TS 3.

Whenever I do new tricks for the first time, cutting in is scarier than being held at gunpoint for me. Like heart attack scary. I dont know why but once I get over it, I can learn the trick.

My goals for this year are grabbed HS FS 3, get my TS 3 back, HS BS 3, 540, and backroll. I just want one invert then Im going all spins. Collin Wright watch out!

Goals for next year, HS and TS 5. TS BS 3. O/A HS 3. Raley. 720.

The Headless Chicken, Im fully aware of the difficulty. I am setting a challenging goal. I strive to be a good spinner, not flipper. Ive been called a natural at spinning and even nicknamed "The spinner" by riders better than me. Ive tried inverts and have ZERO luck. Thats why I want to learn a backroll, just to challenge myself to do something hard for me. Flips just feel so awkward to me.

Technically speaking, a Crow mobe is an ole to handle pass TS 7. I think I realistically have a chance at the 7 by the end of next year. I can spin a 900 off of a dock that is 3 feet off the water. Now I just need to bolt my feet to a piece of fiberglass and pass a handle around my back. Now of course its not that easy, but you gotta aim high!
