windows media on a mac

I bought a G5 about a month ago, and made the complete transfer of everything from my pc. Now that I don't use the Windows system anymore, I want to make sure I can do everything on the mac that I could on the pc. Although I downloaded Windows Media Player 9 for the mac, I have noticed that most wmv files that I've tried to download or stream will not play. Is this an issue with not having specific codecs downloaded? What can I do to make it work.

Between Windows Media Player for mac and VLC from www.macupdate.com, you should be able to play most movies. To be honnest though, Microsoft is a bitch and keeps it mac version of WMP deliberately behind the windows versions so it will never be 100% compatible. IMHO, this is because M$ wants to keep it's OS dominant. I'm a mac user, and because of this, I always avoid M$ formats whenever possible.

DC, I haven't been able to play the vids on my wma and I've got a Mac. I've had to download them and play them through M Player.
