I got an 04 LF Substance 134 for $189 brand new. they said it was a blemished board. something with the graphics that LF wouldnt sell it for full price. i cant find a single thing wrong with the graphics, maybe it is suposed to be more red than orange. either way, looks good to me. here are some pics..
the bindings are the LF EXO suction grey and MAN are they hard to get in and out of!!!! but i only paid $90 for them brand new so cant complain..

I have the same board (but with ultra's), but I'm thinking about upgrading
to the 138.
The substance is a very nice board once you get used to it..! |

Those bindings are a B*tch. I got a set for my wife because I thought the rear lace would be easier, damn was I wrong. Thats the problem with no boardshops nearby I guess. Once you get them on they feel great though.
Anyway, A couple of tips for them to help break them in. I tried putting beer cans in the toes and soak them in hot water and let them dry. That helped loosen them up in front. I tried putting cans inside them but they are a pain to get in or out. So what I did was 2" PVC 90 put a coupling on both sides and a short piece of pipe out of one of them. Essentially making an "L". I made 2 of these. Lube it up and jam it down into the binding to steach out the area over the top of your foot. The extrea length of the one side will give you some leverage to get it in and out. Just do the hot water thing again. I also went over it with a hair dryer to really help out. I think the problem is the wraps are pure rubber and there is no Lycra sewn in on the inside of them.
Pay attention to this though. If you do any of the above do it while they are mounted to the board. The metal base plate does not run all the way to the tip of the toes on the foot bed. If the footbed flexes at the edge of the plate it will crack the foam at the toes. It will also do that if you try to walk around in them. I have about 3/8" crack on both side of both bindings beacause of this. Lesson learned the hard way.
Sorry for the long post and Good luck with them. _________________

| Yep, I used to ride the trip before and the substance felt really slow in the beginning. Took some time to get used to. If you can control the pop it takes you up real high. Now I really like the board..! |

| I have those exact same bindings. At first they were hard to get into and even harder to get out of. Once they break in they are great. I just demoed a Substance and loved it. Not enough to buy a new board but I really appreciate the Substance. That is a good setup. No excuses now. |

thanks for the heads up guys, i cant wait to get out. I am a begginner but i wanted something that i would not out grow. and the aggressive pop attracted the substance to me. not to mention the price i paid. Is there any difference between the 04 and 05? just curious and thanks for the help. ill post some action pics soon - Tim
also, the substance comes with two small fins for the center of the nose and tail. it has the molded side fins. should i keep these on or off as a begginer. i know you guys have heard these questions 1000 times, but what is the real difference? as for as experience? i have used the search button too, lol thanks guys |

Even the 06 is the is the same design simply different graphics As for your fins, if you are a beginer it will most likely be best to put the fins on until you are more comfortable. They will aid you a lot in your landings ie. keep you from sliding out. Once you are going W2W TS and HS consitently and you are feeling comfortable in general then try taking them off and see how you feel about them. When/if you do decide to take them off make sure you ride a few sets, the first one will feel durastically different and could give you the impression that you won't like it. However after a couple sets you may really like it. _________________ O+<| |
