|
|
I'm just finishing my first slider and before I stick it in the water I wanted to know if any of you guys bothered using some sort of sealant on the timber to stop it warping or whatever may happen when it gets wet?
Its a floating slider made out of seasoned pine roofing timber if that helps, I looked for stuff at hardware store like marine decking varnish or exterior decking oil but its expensive. What about linseed oil? Or does it even need anything?
Any help would be great |

I think most people are just painting it to help protect them. _________________ If you do not like your job, you don't strike....You just go in there everyday and do it really half a$$ed.....Now that's the American way - Homer Simpson. |

Thats what I thought but a painter at work said i'd be better off oiling it cause paint would end up coming off when submerged? I thought an oil based paint would be fine. |

I don't think it will make that much of a difference now. More water is absorbed at the ends of 2x4's. So unless you can seal all that, it probably wouldn't be worth it, but then again if you have all winter to do this project - the extra oil wouldn't hurt and may offer some protection.
Post some pics of your slider! Show us how you built it. _________________ The answer is D - All of the above. |

Auctually, he doesn't have all winter to do seal it because his winter is the warm time of the year down in Austrailia. |
