Newbie, I just started this past weekend, riding switch that is, and the way i did it was right when the boat pulled me up I pushed the board around. I did a couple face plants but I think that is just part of it. I had trouble with keeping my weight more on my back foot to keep the nose of the board from digging. I just found that I had to keep that in the back of my mind where it came natural riding regular. I didn't do much cutting. It was mainly just concentrating on minimizing my face plants. Anyway, even though advice helps, I think it is just trial and error. Good luck!

Keep your weight and balance perfectly even, slightly shift your hips left-n-right or right-n-left to gradually turn the board. If the board is resistance, a face plant is coming.

When the board feels loose and will easily go into a slide, go for it! If it does not feel loose, check your weight distribution and try a hip check again. Doing this simple check will save you some face-plants. After a while, you will feel the board hit its neutral position and will no longer need to check for it. Until then, try your hips first.
