Here is my plan will you tell me if it will work.

I want to get a piece of pipe that will sleeve the original pylon and then run a cable to the eye in the front of the boat.
I was going to make a loop out of the cable and hook it to the top with a clip and run the bottom through a turnbuckle (so that I can tighten it up) then hook the turnbucle into another clip that will hook to the front eye on the boat.

It seems like a pretty simple set up to me but can you tell me if there are any problems with my plans.

A few questions:

How big of a cable do I need and does it need to be rubber coated?

Can I use a 2 in ball for a tow point?

How do I get the towpoit off of the top of my pylon?

What kind of paint should I use?

Thanks in advance.
Jon

looks like an accident in the making. For another 150.00 you could get the one 85sn2001 has.Plus if you buy the one he has he might even tell you how to take off the ski tow ring.

I'm using 3/16 with the coating for mine. It's like 10 bucks for like 30 feet at menards. I used a 1 and 7/8 ball as it's what I had laying around that I didn't need. How do you get the towpoint OFF the top? what do you mean by this?

Well my nautique has the old style tow point on top. It is a hook that runs through a ring. I found out on the 2001.com that you just have to drive a couple of pins out. It looks like I am going to take the entire pylon out now and fasten mine in since I couldnt find a pipe that sleeved it very well since the pylon is a little bent. The only problem with this plan is that I will have to take it out everytime to get it into the garage. Oh well for 40 bucs cant beat it.

Well how big is the stock pylon? Like would it be worth it to cut the top ring on the stock pylon off? I'd try to do something with that, It would suck to hafta do alotta work to take it out everytime.

You can do what I did and just remove the stock pylon and slide your pole into the origional pylon hole and tighten it down.

Thats what he was gonna do but he would have to remove his everytime hes done(garage I'm assuming) and I think this would become a pain.

backcrkr, That is what I did but I do have to take it out everytime. It worked very well. sure it is a pain to take in and out but the whole thing cost me less than $40.00 and 2 hours so I can take it in and out alot for the amount of money I saved. Very Happy
