I am looking to build my own Bimini Top. Over hear in the UK I am getting quotes of around 400 to 500 pounds. I know i can get them cheaper from the states.

UK Post is getting hot on import duty and VAT these days!

I have found a shop that sells the fixings and ally poles.

If you have made one, what size and how did you work out where to position everything?

Regards

Hey Mutley-ab,

Have you ever done any tubing/conduit bending - you'll prbably need to get it done or be able to do it yourself....the canvas (Sunbrella) can be bought fairly easily here in the States -dunno about UK supplier? sewing can be done with some home-owner sewing machines...fittings can be bought from marine supply.

I've built them for sailboats and will build one for my boat (someday)...you can initially use conduit (inexpensive) to bend up some tubing to see if your design "works". use heavy craft paper to get full-size templates/patterns for the canvas. Work out your edge details as far as finishing the canvas and how to attach to the frame (usually frame slips through canvas sleeve)

Go have a look at "real" ones noting how they are put together...take pics to refer to different attachment details.

Wes
