A friend in my crew just got a vlx and asked me if he could run a extended pylon on his new boat. To the best of my knowledge before towers they had a tri-pod that would go over the v drive pylon. Now fast forward to today is it possiable to rock a extended pylon on a v-drive with only a bow stap? And is it possiable to use an extended maybe a cut down version without a bow strap?

On some boats, you probably could. You'll want to check the rigidity and strcuture that the pylon is secured in. It should be bolted to an all aluminum frame which is secured to the stringer system of the boat.
Depending on the year of the VLX, it may not be so secure...definetly don't do it on a tige! _________________ www.MidwestMilitia.net |

I had a 7' tall pylon on my old Skier with just a bow strap, no tripod or rear straps. It was put in place of the ski pylon, not over it. And with a few twists of the turnbuckle to keep the strap tight, it wasn't ever a problem even at that height.
But if you're using the V-drive pylon location, a strap to the bow would possibly get in the way of everyone walking around in the boat...especially with anyone sitting in the bow seats. I would think it would be easier to use two side straps or some other invention in lieu of the one strap to the bow. _________________ So, I've got that goin' for me...which is nice! |

I've seen a guy with a sanger v-drive with an extended pylon with only a bow strap out on the delta a couple times. Besides looking funny I don't think he had any problems. It should work exactly the same as if the pylon was in the middle of the boat. except you have a much longer strap out front. |

I was thinking of trying like a four or five footer no strap I know this will increase the torque put on the factory pylon but I don't know if its bad. Maybe I should call scarpa at bi.
