I am looking at buying a new boat and I have almost fully decided on a new yamaha AR230. Please tell me what you have heard or experienced on these boats.

thanks Rolling Eyes

I have searched almost every manufacturer out there, but the problem is they all say they are the greatest. I wanted to ask people who have been on these boats to give me their suggestions.

If you don't have anything pertinent to say STFU

I appreciate the info on the moomba.

Called the local dealer, and they are sold out. He said that the problem w/ moomba and supra boats is that they are only allowed a certain number a year. Once they sell out of those boats, thats it until next season.

chill.u could have left out the STFU part..the best info comes from searching. if you really looking at new boats, for around 30k. i would consider a used boat. u can get some badass stuff for that price.

I appologize for being so snappy. I guess i'm just used to boards filled w/ pretentious asses.

Yes i have considered used, but I don't know too much about checking for hull damage and other important stuff when looking at a used boat.

I considered the AR230, before I purchased another I/O.

This is what I read/heard:

Poor build quality - lots of electrical problems, really crappy trailers, poor fuel economy, lousy customer service. Check out www.yamahajetboaters.com for lots more info.

If you're looking for a "Wake-specific" boat, I think you'll be disappointed with the 230. The only thing that makes it a wakeboard boat is the tower - dual jetdrives aren't going to make a very impressive wake. If you're looking for a multi-purpose boat to wakeboard behind it might be ok, but if this is the case you have lots of options - $30K will buy a really nice, new I/O with a tower & ballast system.

Ultimately my biggest concern was resale. From what I've seen, the resale on jetdrives is pretty poor compared to I/O's & inboards.

thank you that is exactly what i wanted to hear. I am not looking for a wake specific boat, but if i could get one around the 30k mark then i would be very happy. I am in no way a great wakeboarder. I just think it is fun, and i love all water sports. I want a boat that would be fun for wakeboarding, tubing, skiing, and also just entertaining people. I would really prefer something w/ a tower.

Most people take better care of their boats than they do their cars. As long as the engine is sound, I would not be super concerned with the hull and such. I good once over with the naked eye and you can tell a lot of how a boat was taken care of. Then a marine machanic can check things over better when you look serious.

You can steal boats one and two years old, when they take their biggest hit(IMO). You can also get steals on leftover boats(1-2 years old)

In your price range you can get a great I/O like this.....probably cheaper.
http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/8/0/79550380.htm

Obviously I am a huge Cobalt fan and loved mine. Don't think you can go wrong with a high end used I/O....

In closing, any boat is better than no boat. Have fun shopping.

its a nice boat, we used to have one, it is pretty nice quality, the jets are cool, but the wakesucks

and btw, you have no idea what your talking about with resale, we sold our ar230 for 28,000 3 weeks after it was for sale

No offense Enzo, I'm sure you've personally bought and sold many boats at the ripe old age of 14, but I think that if you take a look overall (not just the boat your daddy sold) at the resale on 3-4 year old jetdrives vs. 3-4 year old I/O's, you'll see my point.

Nostta: For a good multi-purpose boat, an I/O can't be beat for all around performance & value. For $30K you'll have lots of options - both new & used. For $1200.00 you can put a tower on any boat - I added a Monster Tower to mine. There are tons of great boat companies out there - I suggest you research & check out what's locally available - since a good dealer is as important as anything.

Comon, guys. At least nostta posted in the right forum. Very Happy

cezza, X-Star. X-80 is aimed more towards open water cruising, and crossover/family fun on the water. The X-Star was built from the waterline down to bring you the ultimate in wake performance.

...hehe... Laughing

well -- you ask, but at the same time indicate you are almost fully decided on a Yamaha. No offense, but doesn't Yamaha make nice outboards and motorcycles? Confused Wink

Give us something more to work with -- what do you want out of a boat? How much can you afford. Those two factors alone will get you some better reponses. Otherwise you can read through -adnaseum- all the threads and Pissing matches about boats on here already. Of course -- this will most likely digress into that Laughing

the 230 is not a wakeboard boat, a tower on a lund fishing boat(remember that one) puts out a much better wake than that ever will

If i were you i would try to find a year end model or go used... we got a steal on our moomba it was a 2000 moomba outback LS with 50 hrs on it.. we just got it at the beginning of this summer. It had been stored in side for 2 years and was in immaculate condition. We got it for right aroun 16k.... which isn't a bad price at all.

I am unsure of where you are located but here are a few boats i found that you may be interested in....

http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/0/3/80439603.htm
http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/4/4/81076744.htm

AN '04 WITH 35 HOURS ON IT.... THAT's pretty new...
http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/6/5/81167665.htm

'03 with 75 hours...
http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/1/1/79308011.htm

'04 56 hours on it...
http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/0/0/80827700.htm

THere are a few boats you can check out... again i don't know if they are in you area, but i am sure you can find one pretty close. I found my boat on boattrader.... Bottom line though, if you are looking to wakeboard at all... I would not recomend a jet boat, We had one for 4 years before you finally got a decent boat.

All of the links i showed you are moomba's just b/c they seem to be the lower priced of all the major ski boats... But take a look and check out the other boats... I am sure you will find something you like..... Good LUCK!

what do you think of moomba boats?

The used ones that i have seen don't seem to be in that good of shape. Not sure if that is from the owners or bad quality?????

i have a mobius and I am aproaching my 3rd season and 270 hrs. The boat is holding up great and I am more than happy with the purchase. I am also really anal about the upkeep on my boat which is why it is in great shape. I would have to think the owner has everything to do with what type of condition a boat is in, and with boats there are two types of owners; those who pamper and those who trash.
