man ... i have been taking some serious spills for the past few weekends when trying to land my first hs fs 360. i am progressing nicely, but still not sticking it clean. my question is: should i take an even more aggressive rip at it in order to get more air-time, or should i just keep at it (right now i'm not landing in the flats by any means)? do you need a lot of hang-time or is that not really necessary? faceplants are fun and everything, but i really am looking forward to landing this trick next time i am on the water.

thanks a lot,
~bc

What did it for me was wating as long as I could to pull the handle for the pass...

POP, PULL then PASS.

Tell yourself over and over wait, wait and wait some more before you pull....
You will be surprised how long you can and need to wait to make this trick easy....

PEACE OUT

yeah ... i am landing (usually) right near the other wake (if not on it). This makes ofr some difficult landings ... I have been kind of taking a less-agressive cut in order to focus more on the spinnning. Do you think that I should just say "the hell with it" and take huge rips?

just focus on going wake to wake but poping up, definitley progressive. Edging first then think spin. Huge rips will only make spining super hard. Slow progressive cut and elbows in sorta close. Pop up, then spin.

you are trying to spin too early. When you spin early you get thrown off axis. Wait longer to throw it and you will stick it !!

I agree with the above. Try this. Slow the boat down and shorten the rope. It is easier to learn the trick with a slower boat speed. Wait until you are at least at the top height of your jump before doing rotation. I think, as stated above, waiting is the key. You do not need a huge jump to land the trick, that is not your problem. Try and pop up, then rotate.

The slower boat speeds really help but it has to be fast enough to clear the second wake. I normally ride at 23-24 but I have the boat slow to 22 for 3's. It seemed easier to learn that way and you can speed up once you get them down.

Go a little slower and shorten the rope. I remember when I was trying it really sucked to get the spin down but then case the second wake hard and fall down. Just keep at it you'll get it.

Can you do a consistent hs fs 180? If so, do some of those with the 3 in mind, as in pull the handle with both hands to your trailing hip so you get done with the 180 with air time left to spare. Then when you try your next 3, do the same thing, give a good solid tug with BOTH hands on the handle and try to keep it as close to your body as you can on the pass.

Practice on random rollers in the water too, you'll find it's easy to spin around when there's no line tension. Good luck!

DO NOT SHORTEN THE ROPE, this actually makes everything happen faster!!!!!
Shortening the rope only helps if you are not clearing the second wake at all, this technique is used mostly for learning inverts. So if people leave early or under rotate they can still clear the second wake. Longer rope = more hang time, more hang time = bigger slower better looking 3's.

Keep everything the same and consistent. you are almost there just stick with the fundamentals of the trick.... POP first then, PULL with both hands, then PASS the handle. One thing I didn't mention before would be, Don't let go of the handle till you have it in the other hand! Oh trust me you will get worked over a few times doing this but once you get it figured out you will be able to pull 3's of little rollers like toothpick mentioned and really piss the peeps of in the boat.
