So I just got a Byerly and so far have gotten to ride it three times this season. Although it rides nice and pops like a mofo , every time I want to do surface 180's and lip slides , I always get the feeling that Im locked in too tight and that if I try it , I'll end up busting my face on the water. Even with the p-wing fins out , the 4 other molded in side fins still make it feel locked tight. Does anyone with this board , or who has ridden it have any suggestions/experience? thanks.

I have the Byerly 137 'o4 surface tricks just come with practice. But mainly just pull the handle to you to your waist and swing the foot around. See if this help.

i dont have the board, but the reason for that feeling is because of the 4 little cut out notches...in a sense, they cut through the water, literally almost keeping you on the water (the water is over those a bit, and it pulls you down). this is what byerly wanted, to make the tracking a lot more stable. i have the 02 byerly, and i dont get that problem becuase the cut outs arent there, you should look into his older models if you dont like it.

I have an 04 142, and what has been said about the cutouts is true. To alleviate that a bit, you need to think about having your weight centered on the board and moving the handle. Try slowing the boat a bit so you can get the feel. Also, come out of the water in a butterslide and stay there. Move the hadle a bit side to side to feel the board shift under you and think about your weight on your heels. It's a good board, but it can be hard to get used to, sometimes.

I'm glad you like the board.

To date I have never ridden a Byerly board I liked.
For some of these exact reasons.

It does take some gettin used to but one this about this board is when you ride to need to go BTW or else you won't get the ride you should. You should charge the wake wake when you see it and never look back.

As far as surface is concerened if you get the board on an edge you can turn it howver you want. I have no problem switch and just the other day I did a surface 360 which was kinda cool.
