|

I know this may vary with location, but what is the typical savings to expect (or negotiate) under retail for a new boat purchase? I've heard anywhere between 12-15% below retail and you are doing well. Is this accurate?
Thanks. |

You hear 15% as a good deal.
I think your best bet is to find some people on here that bought/have the boat you want, then e-mail/PM them and talk pricing. Of course prices are going to vary from region to region, but it is a good starting point.
I don't know if I every did see a MSRP on my boat?

along the same line how is it for used boats from dealerships?
EDIT: tparider, btw im not trying to hijack your thread but simply thought it would be better as a whole to just ask that question on here instead of starting a whole new thread. Thanks |

I think that you will "almost" always get a better deal when you buy a used boat from a private party.
I sold my Cobalt through the dealer for more than I would have let it go if I was selling it in the newspaper/online. To top that off, I am sure they made money on the deal....which is fine, I just told them a dollar amount I wanted to get. Dealers are in the business to make money, they have to or are going to go under. A private party is just trying to get out of a boat.
On the flip side, a dealer does not want to sell you a POS, even if it is a used boat. So they usually go over it and make sure there is not anything significantly wrong. A private party may be trying to pass on their problems to you. A trip to a marine mechanic can set your mind at ease there....but just another step in the process. I highly suggest it if you buy used. Good thing is, most people take FAR BETTER care of their boat than they do a car/truck.
For whatever that is worth. |

| cool, ya well the boat were lookin at is a 01 Tige 21v with just under 300hrs and dealer is asking for 28. I was told I could probably get it for 24-25 if I negociated... Also it comes with 90 day warranty which is comforting.. |

| That totally depends on the dealer. If the dealer is asking far price for the used boat ( you can find the pricing on nada.com) then you will get no where near a $4000.00 discount. If they are a dealer that highballs all their prices in hops that a sucker will come in a pay the over inflated asking price then you might get 4k 0ff. You would not get that kind of discount from my dealer new or used since they don't put over inflated prices in there boats. So you need to do some research and find out what the used boat is worth in your area. |
