Ok, I have a good trip flip, I'm coming around, I'm landing blind, then I slip out. No, I have not landed a regular tantrum. I know I am going blind because I'm pulling the rope down to my hip (my brain fart), I have pulling the rope engrained in me. I have tried over and over to break it, but no matter how hard I focus on it, I'm pulling the rope in, and going blind.

Has anyone had anything like this happen before? Anyone have any ideas of how to get over it?

uhm...no, but soemthing similar. I brought the handle up too high a few times and ended up doing hs off axis backside 3's (pretty rad, but not what i was trying, and i didnt actually land it). just concentrate on getting your board flat based before the wake, then you should be fine....also, do you have a tower or extended pylon? if not, get one or the other becuse the rope will pull you UP, and not back down.

This actually happened to me a bit when I was learning. Its probably happening because your not quite squared up and throwing the tantrum to the side. This will knock you off balance and you pulling the handle to blind is prob because you threw it more over your back shoulder and you naturally are rotating more backside then up and down. Just flatten off and let go with your back hand and it will square you up with the wake which will kick you up and around. If you are doing this all right and still going to blind just regrab the handle with your back hand and you won't go to blind.

als132, Yes, I have done this behind many wake boats...actually I can't remember the last time I rode behind a boat that didn't have a tower...

wakeboarder_360, I'll try and square up more...I'm supposed to be going today, but we'll see. I also like the re-grabbing of the handle, but that will turn the flip into a mix-flip kinda...I'll just have to figure out when to regrab. Thanks.

i have the same problem on my tantrums. getting good pop off the trip but somehow i am a) pulling too much with my front arm and b) my head is turning away from the boat, not just straight back. it is frustrating, as i have no chance of landing it switch! i'm still trying, but have been told to a) relax my front arm, just let it open up b) maybe overcompensate by turning my head slighty to the front so i can see the boat as i go over. good luck, let me know if u find the solution!

Since this got bumped, and sluefong is also having the same problem, I'll chime in.

This is mostly a mental problem. You are thinking of doing throwing the tantrum behind you. Forcing yourself backward off the wake is giving the move an unnatural flow, and instead of letting the flip happen, you are trying to force your body to do the flip.

Think of jumping on a trampoline. If you jump backward, you're gonna hit the ground and be in pain...usually twisting to try and avoid worse injury (a natural response). Instead, on a trampoline, you jump straight up, then do the flip so you land right back where you took off. It's a more natural rotation, and easy to relax when you take off that way.

On the wake, picture yourself doing the tantrum directly above the wake you launch from. True, you will still move backward, but that's going to happen regardless, don't worry about that part. When you hit the wake, simply stand tall and let your hips take all the energy from the wake straight up, then bring your knees up and look to the sky. At that point, just hold on.

Don't try to rush the flip. Twisting happens when you try to get in a landing position right when you start the move. Give yourself time to rotate, spot the landing, and stomp it. During the flip, just relax and enjoy the ride.

cdn_ripper, please stop filling the forums with your drivel. kthx
