Well, it is now allowed if you have a level 2 cert.
The local kiters got together with the Chicago Park District and worked out an agreement.
There are numerous reasons why they did ban it, but the access is back due to great work by some local guys. They approached it a great way.
Basically uneducated people that didn't understand what was going on. _________________ www.integrity-wake.com |

Its great! It adds alot of stability in gusty conditions and makes for easy relaunch. The cool thing about the BFK is you can shorten the 5th line so that it pulls the center more flat to give it a bigger sweetspot for light wind riding. Thenif it picks up, you can let it out to give more range and quicker turning _________________ TONA

Hey Guys
I don't mean to hijack your thread, but I was just wondering if anyone knows of a site similar to this one with a kieboarding theme. I am really interested in taking up this sport and would like to learn more. Thanks
By the way, sweet pics (gets me even more pumped to try it). _________________ KEEP ON KEEPIN IT ON! |

you could use either, but for kiting you want to have easy one-handed entry/exit. Alot of people use just straps but personally I can't stand not being attached to my board.
Here's one from SoCal: _________________ A good friend will bail you out of jail. A great friend will sit next to you saying, "man that was cool as f*ck!" |

What do you mean by one-hand entry/exit? I'm guessing you're talking about the bindings?
I think it's ridiculous having to get another board for kiteboarding. Yeah sure, maybe a longer board helps, but if you ask me, I think the board companies have got us pegged as suckers. In addition, last time I checked those kites were pretty expensive too.
Looks like a fun sport though! |

Unfortunately kiting does require a diff. board. With all the chop associated with edging hard in rough water conditions (white caps, ocean swell, etc.) wakeboards are WAY too stiff. If you rode somewhere with butter all the time like Hatteras, NC then you could probably do pretty good with a normal wakeboard. I've tried using my kiteboard behind a boat and it feels like I'm riding on a wet noodle with all the flex and twist that thing has. Out on the ocean behind a kite that board kicks a$$ though! Wakeboards also have alot more rocker which makes them only usefull for kiting if you're super overpowered or riding downwind. Figure the average speed you kite at if you're going upwind is only about 12 mph. Try wakeboarding at that speed sometime and see how well that board handles. _________________ A good friend will bail you out of jail. If you get ejected from your bindings and your a mile from shore, you need to be able to get back in them without soap. So kiteboard bindings are make of materials that allow for this. the footbeds are the same as wakeboard bindings, The EVA is the only thing that is different.
You can ride a wakeboard. I learned on my wakeboard, but it will beat you up. Like Wallrat said, you also need to be really overpowered to keep a board with such big rocker planing. Wakeboards are not efficient. They dont need to be because a boat pull is constant. I kite power is controlled by the rider and pulls stronger at some times and less on others depending on what you are trying to do. However, as a beginner, you cant control a kite that overpowered, so you end up being yanked into the air on accident and slammed abck down all the time.
best to learn on a kiteboard so you can use less power while learning. If you want to go back to the wakeboard later, then so be it. LF, BEST and some other brand make some sick wakeboard style boards that are designed to kill it on the kite. You will find that you like those better than any wakeboard. _________________ TONA

Do you know a guy named Jerry with Zero Gravity Boards in Corpus?
I met him last night out here.
Hope all is well. _________________ www.integrity-wake.com |

Ezoboarder,
I think you are talking about the Union bindings. A lot of guys that ride boots have been raving about those as kite bindings. I myslef use a set of 04 LF alphas and love them. I will however be buying a set of unions this week. Once I get them I will let you guys know how well they work.
