Am I the only one that has a hard time making a good avatar that fits the size limit? All the animated gifs I make come out to about 20k, and when I try to shrink them, I can only usually get them down to 12k or 14k. Any ideas on how to make them smaller? |

I used photoshop to shrink it, and when I exported it as a jpeg, I lowered the quality to 4 so it would fit the size limit. Mine's not an animated gif though. |

I can fit jpegs fine. The problem is the size of animated gifs racks up pretty quick. For it to fit, it can only have 3 or 4 frames. |

Yeah, my animated gif sucks because it was 6.3k and so I shrank it and the quality got destroyed because of it. I cried. |

base - it may be retarded, but I think they're trying to keep it so the page doesn't take hours to load. If everyone had a picture file that was big, or crazy animations, it would be like loading a page full of pictures every time you view a page. |

First of all, look for a good animation program. There are some simple ones like Jasc Animation shop. You can get them off of Kazaa or find them on the net. It has a wizard that allows you to optimize your animations when you save. You can get them under 6kb very easy as long as you limit the special effects. It is very easy and you can make highly detailed ones in about 2-3 minutes.
You can also:
-Decrease color count
-Decrease number of frames
-Limit frame transition effects _________________ My opinion is my opinion!

Mine has 13 frames but I had to make it pretty small. Plus I didn't use many colors and I had to optimize it as much as possible for a smaller file size. I used animation shop 3 that came with my paint shop pro packaged. |

It wouldn't even need to be 50k to make it easier - 10k of 15k would be okay. |
