I have been wake boarding for 1 season now and my rope is attached to that metal lope at the back bottom of the boat. What disadvantages does this put me in position for.

Your not getting pulled up like on a tower but you can still throw down behind one of thoes just in the future look to get a tower or extended pylon.

The tower or pylon will give you more hangtime by pulling the rope up, as opposed to you going against gravity and being pulled down by the low rope

You can still get some good spins and I'm going to work on my inverts and grabs this year so I'll keep you informed. I don't have one of the metal things so I use a bridle, it gives me about a foot higher pull than my friend's sea ray. His boat has a nicer wake though.

If you're going big the rope will pull you down and doesn't allow you as much hang time. You can still do 3's 5's, tantrums, backrolls, frontrolls...etc. Yes it does suck, but it's not really going to hold you back too much if you're just working on beginner/intermediate tricks.

Darin Shapiro invented the "Metal ring at the back of the boat to tie your rope to." He patented it in 1991, and he's been using it ever since. He does a double front flip on that badboy.
