It's all up to you. I prefer them, but some don't. I just feel like I have more control. You should try with some old shoes before you buy new ones also...

Hey, I'm new to wakeskating...well I haven't tried yet. That's pretty new right! I'm just wondering about the whole shoes thing. You can get a board pretty cheap for starters, but how important are the right shoes? If I use regular tennis shoes, will that work? Or do I need skateboard or wakeboard shoes?

And as far as drilling holes, that's just to let the water drain right? Where do you drill them, in the soles?

Thanks
chips

vision135, They don't make wakeboard shoes, those are called bindings Wink Laughing

As for wakeskating shoes, I just use a pair of nikes and I do lots of flip tricks, but then again I've never used wakeskate shoes... and I don't own a pair of boardshorts either Confused

regular shoes will work, and yes drilling holes in the soles really does work. no you dont really need skate or wakeskating shoes.

there is something to be said about boardshorts...they are the fastest drying trunks I've ever worn.

BTW, thanks for the advice on shoes! I'm definitely going to give skating a try. Looks like I'll be sporting Adidas!!
